New Octavia VRS TDi Owner checking in with photos

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I’ve been posting a bit around the forum but thought I’d say hi and let you know what I’ve bought!

I’m a member on loads of other car clubs (including Pistonheads) with the same username so you may have come across me before. I’m 25 but have had a varied car history in those short years ranging from Mini’s (a convertible and Cooper, both classic), VW Golf, Gen 7 Celica, VX220’s (3 of them!) 2 Audi S4’s (the V6 twin turbo model, one of which was modified) and now, in a bid to find something economical, practical yet still quick, the Skoda Octavia v/RS TDi 170 estate. I’m fairly active so needed the estate for all our outdoor pursuits! We have windsurfs, kayaks, mountain bikes and a boat so the boot, roof and towbar get used heavily during the summer. Plan to do some Euro camping trips this year. The Audi was too heavy on fuel to take to South of France or Italy unfortunately.

Apologies for the rubbish phone photos, light was fading so not the best time to the be taking photos. I have a decent Nikon, I just need the time to go out and get some better photos. Maybe at the weekend. You may have seen my post asking for advice when I was going to buy the car, but the specs are as follows:

56 plate PD 170 estate (seems to be the 2006.5 revision model according to the handbook supplement)

Xenon headlights

Jumbo box

Climatronic climate control

Cruise control

Auto wipers

Maxidot

Parking sensors

Stream MP3 with CD changer (soon to be Columbus once I’ve saved up)

4x electric windows

+ Probably a few other things I’ve forgotten

Standard engine but managed to negotiate into the deal a cambelt, waterpump, brakes and full service so it shouldn’t need anything doing for a while.

Just on the look out now for some new mats, OEM bluetooth kit and a Columbus system to finish it off, although these won’t be until the new year. Also plan for a remap. Any pointer on who to go to? There seems to be loads of people out there who offer a remap. My S4 was mapped and maintained by MRC Tuning in Banbury who will also work on my Octavia who have won the European Gold Audi Tuner award 3 years running so are very highly regarded.

See you around.

Dan

Looks minty! Well found. Welcome to the club, I think you'll find it an enjoyable ride, despite being a little more humble than some off the list :p

With Banbury being only 45 minutes from me, I'd be interested if you do get any good feedback for the guys at MRC. I'll be looking at mapping mine in the new year with a bit of luck..........

Thanks. It is a nice example I think. I’m hoping the engine and DPF will be ok with my daily short drives. I often travel down to Cornwall or up to London to visit family hence why I went for the diesel, even though my daily drives are quite short. I’m really enjoying the car so far. More so than I thought I would, it’s actually pretty quick and pulls really well, I’m very pleased. You can tell it’s a lot newer than the Audi’s, which I really like. Not just the toys but the feel of the steering and gearbox feels a lot newer. I’m loving the huge boot! That will be very useful come summer.

I’ve so far driven from Cambridge where I picked the car up from down to the New Forest and I’m due for another run up to London in a couple of weeks too. :)

Welcome to Briskoda, nice looking octy mate.

Thanks.

Oh and I had very good experiences with MRC. If you're only 45 mins away go and try them out. They really know their stuff and know the VAG stuff inside out. They’re about 2 hours or so from me but I still drove up there in my Audi for servicing and health checks, because I knew they’d do such a good job!

Hi and welcome aboard.
