Cambelt Question

Featured Replies

My Skoda Fabia 1.4 16v Elegance is in for it's MOT at the weekend and I got a call from the garage yesterday informing me that the cambelt & tensioners were due replacing. The car is a 06 model and has 32k on the clock. Is this correct what they are telling me? They said they have a special offer on at the moment and it will cost £299 but I don't know if that includes labour (but I doubt it does). I've also noticed a couple of cambelt posts on here that mention having the cambelt and water pump done at the same time. Does the pump have to be done or does it just make more sense to do it at the same time (I'm assuming that the pump is under or near the belt)?

It's 4 years, or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first (this is not what the book says, but VW revised it downwards via a service bulletin). Can't comment on price, because mine had it done by the previous owner just before I bought it (£750 for the cam belt + 4 year/50,000 mile service at the dealers with no extra work, according to the bill :o )

Yes, might as well change the water pump as it is driven by the cam belt and they are not very durable. Pumps are about £25. There have been some special offers of discount cam belt changes in some Skoda dealers recently, £299 was a figure mentioned including parts. Jump in quick mate.

Most V..A.G dealers are involved in a fixed price offer for cambelts which is £299 inc parts and labour or £399 inc the water pump. with dealers being quiet over xmas theres always a chance you can scrape another few quid off

Twist their arm for a new free alternator drive belt . They have to take it off anyway.
