Power Steering Warning Light

Featured Replies

The last couple of mornings, the power steering warning light as come on when I've turned on the ignition and not gone off again.

30 seconds up the road I've killed the ignition and restarted and the light has gone out without a problem.

Another thing I've noticed is that sometimes when manoeuvring (parking mostly) and the lights are on then they can dim when the power steering is working. Not always though.

Is this something wrong with my power steering, battery, alternator or something else all together?

Thanks in advance.

Doing a bit more hunting around on here, I don't have any flickering lights under normal circumstances. Think I need to get the batter and alternator checked out.

Its a Skoda fault, it happens to most of us too ;) It has something to do with the PAS pump not priming properly in cold weather. If the light comes on when you first start up, just turn the engine off and start again and it should go out.

Same with the dimming lights, that also happens to everyone - as long as they only dim a little its completely normal.

It's happened to me also.

Switch off, turn the heater fan to zero, re-start and idle at 1200 for a minute, then re-start, if all ok, proceed as normal with heater on and order your new battery PDQ.

DB.

It's more than likely the Battery on it's way out, mine has done that in the cold weather all last winter and the first cold days of this winter killed the battery so a new one was fitted. If your battery is over 5 years old then it most probably time to change it..
