Dash illumination flicker!

Featured Replies

Last couple of mornings have noticed the whole dash illumination system flickering, only does this two or three times then doesn't occur again?! Any one had this problem or heard of this many thanks

The Speedo and Rev counter needles flicker on mine, sometimes wont do it for days, other times it goes constantly.

Not sure if it's worth the effort to fix though.

Hi, just bought my fabia at the weekend so still working out whats wrong with it. ( theres always something wrong with a car ). Anyway, on the way to work thismorning I noticed the dash lights flicker, just for a split second. This happened on two occasions. No idea what may cause this. I'll monitor the situation.

Flickering like a strobe, or just dimming? If it's actually strobing, this can be a sign of PAS angle sensor failure. If it's just dimming, it's more likely that the battery's not fully-charged, and the draw from the PAS pump (something like 60A) is causing a general power drain.

Silly question, but what steering side effects (if any) would you get from an angle sensor failure ?

The issue is that it sends spurious signals to the pump, even when you're not turning the wheel. Clearly, how heavy or light the steering feels when you going straight ahead is neither here nor there - it might make the level of steering assistance inconsistent, but you shouldn't end up swerving across the road or anything!

Thanks.

I ask as we tried to add a bit of weight to the steering via vagcom, it seemed to work, but now it feels really light, and it wont change back !

Thanks for your help, might try changing it to see if it solves my needle flashing too.

That wud figure since the weather has been crap n I'm aware the steering angle sensor to be a common fault

Thanks

I think it's less of an issue with newer Fabias that have the metal sensor TBH, but it's worth checking. In all honesty, if it's just lighting and nothing else, you should probably start by looking at the battery like I said, and then the earth points for the electrics. Only if the lights actually flicker (not dim) and/or you have dodgy steering should you put the sensor near the top of your list of things to look at...

Last week, my fuel gauge was 'bouncing' up and down so i turned the ignition off and when i started the engine again, the gauge had settled down. This week the steering occasionally feels very heavy, but only when about 1 full turn has been applied and sounds similar to whats being described above. Never had any electrical problems before so having found this thread, Im wondering if it stems from the angle sensor. Any idea how much it costs to replace?
