VRS Bumper protection

Featured Replies

I notice the VRS doesn't have scuff pads on the bumpers. Due to their shape, any scuff on the corners is likely to damage two components. Is there any accessory one can fix here to protect them?

I'd suggest a regular waxing with a good quality product.

:):o I ran a Rover down the side of a London bus o/s corner a few years back. Hopped out to take a look at the damage and my heart sank. Later back home and out with the same wax I'd used a few weeks ago and what do you know, all the scuff marks came out and she was back to as new. Amazed my passenger I can tell you.

The wax wil provide an isolating layer and all but heavy impact scuffing will likely come out.

Hmm. Wax vs. pebble-dash walls = no contest. I have pebble dash pillars on the front of my garage and I have to drive in at a slight angle. I will probably nail some coir matting to them.

I think that might be far more aesthetically pleasing than driving around with the equivalent nailed to the front of a vRS !

I have self-adhesive cork floor tiles (B&Q's best) hanging on my garage wall to take the impact of opening the doors. Works a treat.

I've got old carpet stuck to the walls of mine. Looks daft but works great. I just need to clear it out to make it home for my Fabia now.

Anyone after mk2 xr2 fiesta parts?

Yes, I have carpet tiles inside the garage to protect the doors. I think that the rubbing action on entry would be better handled by a coir mat. Anyway, this only protects the bumpers from my garage. Something attached to the bumpers would be necessary when I am out and about.

But those stick ons from Halfords look so naff, you see then on OAP carriages usually stuck on at the wrong angle and looking totally sad. Please don't do it, you'll be letting the side down.

Besides the front bumper is quite well protected by the number plate housing.

Take it from me, I had a Merc E class estate back into (and I mean into) my vRS four days after I collected it. Happened right in front of me. Needless to say I went ape at the guy (told him amongst other things, to buy a car he was up to driving next time) but amazingly there was no damage to the car. The number plate housin took it and shrugged it off.

Another thing, the Fabia is a tad slimmer than other cars and I find this a great bonus to avoiding scrapes etc.

Another thought Mike, perhaps you are looking at buying the wrong car after all.

Maybe a Citroen C3 1.4HDi 16v XTR is more up your street. Loads of protective scuff proof plastic on that beast !

It's the corners that are exposed. On the rest of the Fabia range, they have protective strips.

I've had my fabia since may and to be honest it's got it's fair share of marks now. All done by other people which really bugs me like when they open their doors etc.

It's a fact of life your car will get marked, just try and enjoy it the best you can

Try parking defensively - in other words park such that others think you are a bad driver (i.e. across bays etc.). Others give you a wide berth thinking your likely to come back and hit their car on leaving !

Its an old trick I got from a motor trader friend !

I got an old mattress in my garage, can bash the door all day and it wont damage it :P
