persistent brake judder

Featured Replies

Hi

got an 04 old style octavia turbo diesel classic. Anyway had that 'warped disc' feel almost since I got it (3 years ago?), got the dealers to look, changed the discs, seemed better for a couple of weeks, happened again, back for more discs, then yet again. Lived with it for ages then thought it must be the calipers binding. New calipers, new discs, new rear drums and shoes, sorted. For a day. Grr. Seems to be getting worse. Could it be a hub? Wishbone bush? Driveshaft? Who knows (not me)? Any help appreciated. Ps judder is just about noticeable under acceleration, but much worse under braking.

ps no judder through the handbrake when that is applied on the move, cleaned the ABS rings (one was a bit bent so straightened it), judder seems to be one pulse per wheel revolution, possibly coming from the front right but not totally sure.

as it is ok for 1day when all is new it is most likely due to pad transfer to the disks

did you follow any break in process?

Judder under acceleration is often drive shaft related. Could be a knackered CV.

Just hammered the brakes to be honest, I'm guessing that's perhaps not the ideal thing to do. The discs look flat though. I have a set of new brembos, maybe I should try them and use them gently if that's the done thing. Cheers for the info!

Will check the CVs. Thanks for that. That's the accelerate in 1st and reverse on full lock thing is it? Not sure how else to test them.

Yeah you're supposed to take it easy for a few days when braking with new discs & pads. I've just fitted Pagid discs & pads to both of our cars & I'm very impressed with them. Really hard pedal now

Put the car on full lock & slowly pull away then try full lock the other way. If you hear a clicking noise you have a worn CV.
