Skoda Octavia - Warning indicator after changing battery

Featured Replies

I have a Skoda Octavia 2001 4x4 1.9TDI.

The battery finally got so bad (I guess from age + short/cold driving), that I had to replace it. So I replaced the black Varta (560A starting power) with a new silver Varta (760A starting power). Now it starts fine - however, after starting, the general warning indicator (red exclamation mark inside a circle), accompanied by several beeps.

Also, the ABS warning indicator comes on. I think the ABS indicator might be a lack of cleaning the wheel wells - and I am unsure if the two indicators are related, or if the warning is somehow related to having replaced the battery.

Any insight would be great :)

Thank you for your time.

I would be tempted to turn it on/off a few times and see if it clears.

iirc the manual will tell you give you a break down of numbers of beeps = specific fault.

Can you get vag-com onto the car to see what (if any) faults are logged.

Might be worth checking all the fuses are ok, and the nuts are nipped up on the fuse box onto top of the battery (as these, when loose are known to cause issues (and even a fire :S)

How is your brake fluid level?

Ok, so turning the engine off and on a few times did not make a difference.

When the ignition is turned from off to the II position, ABS light and the red exclamation point with a circle light up, and it beeps three times.

When I switch the ignition on, it beeps three more times and the red indicator light blinks, while the ABS stays on. I believe the ABS light itself only causes a single beep.

I don't have the manual handy, so I'm not sure what it means. Closest I got from Google was the ECP feature which might put the car into a safe mode.

All I did was disconnect the old battery and reconnect the new one :( I gently tilted the connector box on top of the battery so I could switch batteries. And all the connectors there are tight and fuses intact.

Maybe I just have to put it in at a shop :/ - I never got around to picking up a VagCOM thinggy.
