Jacking the front?

Featured Replies

I wish to jack up the front of car to take of the front wheels etc. and the only accessable looking point I can see is the chunky piece of curved aluminium that holds the rearward front lower wishbone bush. Is this OK to use?

PS. I do not want to use the sill.

I wouldnt jack on an alloy arm , i use the stock jacking points myself

Use a trolley jack with an ice hockey puck, with a slot cut in it at the normal jacking point.

Its not an actual arm and quite meaty, I use the Ice hockey pucks too, just trying to avoid using the sills

I use a trolley jack with a chunk of wood on top at the jacking points.

If you bend it even slightly it will be ruined , i guess its your car and your risk but i wouldnt do it

If you jack up a vehicle at the position specified by the manufacturer you will do no harm to the suspension, note the jack supplied, a block of wood slotted to fit the lip or a jacking pad will support the vehicle correctly usually better, and do no damage to the sills. Jacking on certain suspension parts can, I repeat can, not will, cause damage to suspension and wheel alignment. In the 40+ years I was a Motor Vehicle Technician I have seen a lot of damage caused by jacking.
