Hi does anyone knows how much can cost replacing hydraulic tappets in 1.9 TDI ASV? Can you reccomend any good garage/mechanic in derby/nottingham area? Someone who knows tdi's engines very well?

Maybe Greg123 (?) does this kind of thing. He's based in Notts.

I've recommended him to folks in the Notts area on numerous occasions and he's always done a first rate job.

Oil was changed about 4000 miles ago for mobil 1 0w40.

are you on variable servicing? 0w40 isn't standard spec oil...

I spoke to Greg yesterday, he is still very much alive and kicking, give him a call :thumbup:

Yeah, as far as I can tell for ASV (insofar as it's NOT AWX/ATD/AVB!), Autodata says 15W40 or 10W40 semi-synth. Should only be 506.01 0W30 spec for variable servicing...

Are u sure its not a sticky tappet? Had it happen to my car for a day or 2 then it freed its self, and has been fine since.
