Exaust Fumes in the cabin

Featured Replies

Looking for some advice, since i had the car serviced a while back, there seems to be a leak somewhere

in the mornings last few frosty ones, i have left the car running to warm up and defrost the windscreen, but when i get in there has been a smell of exaust fumes, but more pungent than the ones at the back of the car, seem to notice it sometimes when stopped in traffic too, but ok when moving along

any ideas, im hoping its going to be just a filter not correctly fitted or something, havent had a chance to get in a look though so any advice be great

Thanks

Dallan

Is it a fuel smell? I know the seal on the fuel filter can leak under pressure if not replaced correctly on the PD engine-had it happen on my last vRS-not sure if same on CR. Fuel can potentially get on manifold or on belts.......:eeek: this would make quite a strong dieselly smell though??

no its deffo a exaust smell, its like the hot smell you get when dpf is doing a regen, hard to describe, but i have a feeling its going to be the pollen filter, as it was ok before the service and the filters were changed, and kept meaning to drop into Phoenix to get it checked but cant now

I get a diesel smell in the cabin when I first start the car and then allow it to heat up before driving away. Is that common or a sign that something needs looked at?

IIRC, the original pollen filter is activated charcoal. Many cheaper filters are not.

If you have just had a service, check what type of filter they fitted.

Just took it out, wasnt sure where it was but after a quick search..., looks like just a white paper filter bit grey looking in places says valeo on it and had vw, but not sure this is activated charcoal

shook the bits of leaves off it and refitted will have to see if it makes a difference

Do you leave the aircon set to recirculate when you do this, if you leave it set to normal it will pull air in from around the car and if the exhaust fumes are blowing or congregating around the front of the car there is your explanation.

Also I hope you do this on a secure driveway as it is illegal to leave a car running with no occupants on the road, which is also a good way to get your car nicked.

And invalidate your insurance in the process.
