First Service Due!

Featured Replies

My can is due its first long-life service in 400 miles, so I rang my dealer who sold me the car and said the first service costs including parts, labour and VAT would be £254 exactly.

I thought this seemed a bit expensive so I did a little research and rang my local VW dealer. Obviously the engine/drivetrain is the same as a Golf GTI. They quoted me only £199.34 including parts labour and VAT. In my eyes, saving £54 is £54!

My main question would be a full VW dealer history would be just as acceptable as a Skoda history when part exchanging selling on would it not?

Many thanks

Not sure on the validity of the VW stamp, but my first call would be to the Skoda dealer to see if they can price match, or at least justify their higher price...

In buying a car I would not be put off by it being a VW and or Skoda history as essentially they are one in the same....................I guess my only worry in your shoes would be as it's a brand new car would their be any implications?

Sounds sensible to see if they would price match

Thanks for the input guys, I will ask them why they are more expensive and if they will match it

Provided the service is carried out at a VAT registered garage, using genuine parts and following the manufacturers servicing schedule of work then your warranty is unaffected - see EU Block Exemption ruling. Personally I'd be on the phone to the Skoda dealer to check they can't price match or phone a couple of other local Skoda dealers to get comparitive quotes.

Thanks again, this looks useful

I rang round several Skoda dealers in the region when my first longlife service was due.

There was a surprising variation dealer to dealer.

I think I paid £186 in the end IIRC

Is the first Service not just an oil change ? . For my first service i only paid £107 inc Vat from my local dealer that was parts + labour . i had my third service carried out last month at the same dealer and that was £236 inc Vat for parts + labour and that was including the pollen filter and air filter . I think prices vary from dealer to dealer .

£183 for my first long life service a few weeks ago...
