20,000 mile service

Featured Replies

I have enquired with 4 Skoda dealers about the 20k service on my Fabia and am completely confused :S Ive never encountered a manufacturer whos dealers offer the same service with such wildly varying prices and advice!

First dealer says its around £180 all in inc. pollen filter. They test brake fluid and advise if a change is needed.

Second says its £180 plus £23 for pollen filter, £50 for brake fluid change and £37 for cleaning the brake shoes... so £290!

Third just said its £234 for a full 20k inspection service.

Now Im aware that the inspection service is sod all and my 10k one was £70, and according to my service book a 20k service is the same as a 10k one so why so expensive especially as a pollen filter isnt that pricey. According to Skodas website its fixed price servicing and all transparent but as you can see it isnt. Cant wait for the warrantly to run out, Ill do it myself and properly :giggle:

A 10k service isnt an inspection service, its just an oil and filter change.

20k is an inspection, brake fluid is due on time basis not mileage.

you don't need to wait for the warranty to run out, do a search and there is a law which says u can use any garage. if its using genuine parts to service you've still got the warranty. ignore the stupid dealers, at the end of the day they are there to make money and try to smile at you, ignore the bright lights and nice suits.

in fact i'm going to avoid the dealer next time, they used 15-40 oil in mine, presumably to save money. they'll make loads of salesmans speeches, 'it's multigrade high quality manufacturere recommended, etc, I paid a few quid to have tyre depth checked and water topped up.

Very true, I wasnt happy with the 10k oil change as the oil was very dirty like they left some old in there.... I think the first dealer sounds the best as at least they were open about the brake fluid. It wont be 2 years either so its not due and even if it was I can do that easily enough. The dealer who wants £37 to clean the brake shoes... they can go and whistle, I bought the car from them and they did the first service.

i paid £220 /and £45 for brake fluid 20.000 mile 1.9tdi this inc brake drum clean pollen filter got a litr oil for top up screen wash. you should change the brake fluid every 2 years as mosture builds up due to heat and atmosphere so not as effectient
