Stalling.

Featured Replies

Just wonder if there are more people that experience that the car is stalling when trying to take off from stand still?

The car we got is a manual 140 PD, could it just be as simple as that me and my ms are not used to a 6 manual with a back gear that you have to push down to activate, we`re coming from a Nissan Pulsar (Almera) 1997.

So instead of 1st gear we might engage third?

Also, is it possible to turn off the rain sensing wipers?

Cheers.

yeah, i have the same problem in my diesel vrs, only had it 6 months and stalled it 3 times, i have never stalled 3 times in the last 20 years and i drive for a living !!

i think it's all that power waiting to be unleashed........

Wife was stalling the car continuously when we first got it (new diesel VRS), think its easy to just not give it enough revs if you just want to pull away gently, she also got it in the wrong gear a few times.

The octavia is a bit dangerous when it stalls tbh - with our old focus you'd just put your foot on the clutch and restart it with the car still moving, with the octavia it refuses to do anything till you come to a complete halt. This is not good if you've stalled it crossing a road and might get rammed at any moment.

I'm curious as to why you would want to turn off the rain-sensing wipers - I think they are brilliant. They are particularly useful when dealing with spray from other vehicles. They automatically speed up as you overtake lorries kicking up spray, so that you don't have to speed them up manually and can keep your concentration on the road.

If you don't like them, then you don't have to leave them on that setting. I think the stalk goes off-rain sensing-normal speed-fast speed, so you can choose not to use them.

The obvious answer is to read the recent thread

My Octavia TDi won't stall

Seriously, a manual gear shift usually takes the spring loaded default position that 3rd is straight forward and 4th is straight back. The gear stick needs to be pushed across to the left then forward to engage first.

I'd be surprised if your previous car was not like that. Mine have been like that for decades. Only the reverse position and accessibility has changed.

Drove a lot today and yes if I concentrate and engage the gear stick to left it seems to help completely, no stalling today.

Regarding the wipers, finally it rained (yes it does rain sometimes down under) and could try the wipers out and found after I adjusted the sensitivity that they actually are great, do not want any off position anymore!

Thanks for the replies.
