Best big turbo for the dosh?

Featured Replies

Hi - as per thread title, if I were to get a bigger turbo for a PD engine, what would be the best route to go down? Any advice and costs would be useful. :D

Jason spend your hard cash on bigger brakes before you make it go any quicker, I know your options are limited, but sure you could find some vrs type uprights somewhere.

:)

Sorry to hijack this thread but could I use the hyrbid turbo for

The hybrid is a modified version of your turbo, the one i'm talking about is mine (also the one supplied to VW Racing).

Benifits of having the VNT17 modified is it looks completely standard from the outside ;)

But you really need a custom map to make it worth while.

wouldn't be a problem. :D Just mulling things over in my head if I have the opportunities forthcoming to me to be able to do this a lot more easily that on its own.

*EDIT*

Originially I asked a stupid question but since reading a post again I realised what I had done

But IIRC the pd100 injectors are different from the pd130/150 ones which max out @ just over 200bhp

Its a GT28... not a IHI :D

Some of us might not agree but I guess its what you feel happy with.

Its worth driving cars with both before you decide & try driving it slowly as well.

Having driven a 1.8T a couple of times with the IHI & circa 350 horsies I was very impresed with the lack of lag together with a very smooth & progresive power delivery, it gave a scarily quick car that could also be an easy car to live with around town & for everyday driving.

Garret have I gather a bad reputation as being "laggy" although I have been told the newer turbos are better, I havent driven a car with one so cant comment on how good it is relative to the IHI but it would need to be good to comparable with the IHI.

Having owned an Impreza I know what a pain in the butt turbo lag can be, that kick in the back when it finally catches up can be fun but your overall progress is actually slower & driving is less smooth.

Oh well... its a shame my car is standard... :(

We have started dealing with Turbo Dynamics they told me they have supplied turbos for PD's that have made 240 bhp+ you cannot run over about 1.7 BAR on a VGT else it all goes pear shaped!
