Stupid fuse issue

Featured Replies

Hi,

Newbie here. Just acquired a Mk1 2004 Octavia vRS.

Everything seems to be in order, but when I plugged my sat nav in, it wouldn't charge.

I've come across the locked windows issue, but that doesn't seem to be the problem.

So, it's probably the fuse.

The thing is, I can't find where the fuses are!! I thought it would be near the door below the steering wheel, but I can't see any access door. There's no manual with the car, and the one I found online looks like it's for a Mk2.

Anyone help? Pics if possible as I'm a bit clueless.

Fuses are behind a plastic cover - you will see a little arrow on it where you can pop your ignition key as a leaver.

I removed an additional piece of trim (upper section), which you need not worry about.

I know you mention it, but I believe if you have the "window lock" thing enabled on the drivers door it stops the socket(s) from working. I have a secondary socket in my boot, near to the nearside rear light cluster.

Welcome to Briskoda, btw.

Thank you for a swift and perfect reply.

If there's an arrow, I must have missed it. But, it was already dark when I was looking around.

Hopefully I can get it sorted from here.

Thanks again, and for the warm welcome. I suppose I should go an introduce myself...

Actually I think it might be the child lock thing - it may be worth checking to see if that is enabled as that might kill the power to the aux socket. Hopefully you will get this minor fault sorted and not get lost down any country lanes (might you could be an excuse to get to know the car :giggle: )

No, I tried it both ways. No life at all.

Anyone know what size of fuse the cigarette lighter is?

I've just bought a selection of fuses from ebay.

Fuse 1 - 10amp - relay for cigarette lighter

Fuse 41 - 15amp - cigarette lighter

Maybe the relay has failed? Not quite sure that the relay does, as on my car, the sockets are live all the time.

Fuses arrived. Changed the 15amp one.

Sorted!!

Thanks for the help.

Left hand and right hand main beam respectively on my car and yours is probably the same.- both 10A. Just to check you have the right fuse number, fuses 18 and 19 are the two red fuses next to the brown fuses on the left hand edge in the photo of post #2.
