TFSI remap - Less economical?

Featured Replies

I've just sold my remapped mk1 fabia vrs, and bought a '06 octy vrs tfsi, very different cars, but both great! the fabia gained mpg slightly after the remap, but ive been told that a remap on the tfsi engine loses a lot of fuel economy. please someone tell me its not true! i dont want to go to the garage and ask, as im sure they would say it doesn't - even if it does :)

If you drive sensibly then it wont be worse than standard ,but the power delivery of a remapped one gets a bit addictive and then it goes down but not a lot.

I have a Revo remap on my 2008 TFSI. Very very please with it. Economy is excellent - got 39mpg on a recent 300mile return trip with a mixture of motorway and A roads - and that without crawling along at 50mph.

In usual mixed rural and suburban driving I average about 30mpg - not bad because that includes some brisk driving and also sitting in traffic queues. Would definitely recommend this remap.

if you were to drive like a normal person with both maps on, you will gain a good few mpg.

however if you start using the extra power which of course you will, it will drop. but only when you use it.

my fuel economy stayed pretty unchanged from stage 1 and stage 2 however it did drop quite substantially at stage 2+. I drive pretty hard to be fair and i averaged around 26-28mpg, although driven sensibly id hit 36 easily. even more on the motor way. 12mpg on trackdays though

I concur, swmbo averages 35mpg, unfortunately I bring that average down to about 28................

I know it may not be that relevant because my car is the TSI but I see figures around 41 mpg on a motorway run (fast run 75-80 mph)

Slow it down a bit and this easily reaches 45-46 mpg which I think is amazing for a car with circa 250 bhp

is this remapped ??

if so what are your thoughts on the warranty situation, it being a new car and all

My car is Shark stage 1 and I have better MPG than standard. With a remap you dont have to push the car as hard to get good performance. I only really use the power to overtake and normally just drive on the engine torque. I very rarely have to go above 3500rpm unless Im overtaking and return between 30 - 35mpg on twisty country 'A' roads. Even when pressing on it sits at about 25-28mpg, which isnt bad for a 2.0 turbo. My old 300bhp Focus RS would barely manage 15mpg driven normally!

I would also fit a BSH revamp plate and take off the PCV valve. That also helps with economy and stops the majority of the oil heading back into the intake. Some people fit the BSH catch can but oil can also head back into the intake from the rear PCV valve. So id just stick with the revamp and save your money. Do a search on PCV and see what you think?

Yeah its Shark Performance Stage 1.

Well warranty is a bit of a grey area, my car dealer is aware that it is remapped and have had a few warranty claims already, albeit nothing to do with the engine or drivetrain.

But as a dealer goes, they get paid for warranty work anyway so it looks good for their numbers, so most would probably not turn you away IMO, however it just depends on the dealer.

Ta very much, what your saying makes sense, if i understand it correctly, that its only when i floor it that it will use more, if i drive normaly, then it should use the same. I do tend to rag it round when the familys not on board though :) i'm definetly going to go for it after xmas.

Note that some Skoda dealers are also Revo agents - this could help a bit since they may be a little more 'understanding' as regards the warranty situation. This is one reason I chose Revo and used a Skoda dealer. As it turns out I never had any reason to use the warranty - car has been 100%, not even a blown bulb.
