correct storing of tyres

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

What is the correct way to store car tryes removed from the rims - upright or on their side in a pile ?

Seems to be differing views on the subject.

Presume a cold (potentially damp) garage is not great place either, but go no where else.

Cheers

Don't know about where you live, but my tyres are permanently damp & cold.....on the car. :D

Visit just about any tyre depot & you'll see racks & racks of tyres stored vertically....doubt it makes much difference when not mounted on rims anyway. I assume they are your summer tyres-10/12 weeks shouldn't matter too much TBH.

According to advice I've seen, repeated in a number of places, tyres on the wheel should be stacked flat whereas tyres off the wheel should be upright.

Protected from the weather and out of the sunlight appears to be good enough.
