Wiring adapters for fabia - what should I buy?

Featured Replies

Just wondering what wiring adapters people use when connecting new HUs to a fabia. What about ariel amplifiers - what do you use?

Thanks

Dave

Wire wise an adapter shouldnt be required as they have ISO connections, you may have to swap over the perm and ign live feeds thats all. I got my aerial amp from Halfords.

The HU I'm after is an Alpine 9830R, so what you are saying is that I can plug the wiring adapter from the car directly into the back of the HU - no adapter required in between.

In relation to your second point, which are the perm and ign live feeds? And what happens if they are the wrong way round? I'm confident with the practical side of things, but not too sure of the electrical bit. Don't suppose you have any diagrams??? (don't ask, don't get! )

While I'm in on a roll with the questions, my understanding is that the ariel adapter fits between the ariel 'in' on the HU and the cable from the ariel itself. You then need to somehow link the power cable from the ariel amp to the blue cable on the wiring adapter - this provides the power... Is this right?

Thanks,

Dave

There will be a red and a yellow power wire.

If they aren't swapped over then it will work but will lose the radio presets when switched off.

You are correct about the aerial power adaptor.

Some head units come with a couple of bullet connectors to allow you to swap the power wires over. If so then you can connect the aerial power wire to one of the spare terminals. If not then you'll have to cut the cables and put your own connectors in to swap the wires over and connect the aerial feed.

I'm not too far from warwick if you want a hand.

I may well take you up on that offer... I'll let you know how I get on!

Hello i have just fitted the Alpine cda 9833r to my Fabia VRS with the Blaupunkt connector which has the aerial booster built in, the Skoda filler panel is also the best and cheapest at

No what I mean is the loom that comes with your headunit will plug directly into the cars standard wiring.
