Roof Rails Fitting to 1.9 SDI Classic Estate?

Featured Replies

Hi There!

I have been absolutely loving my Fabia since I bought it about 4 months ago but have ran into a slight spot of bother. I've realised that I could probably do with some roof bars for a trip i'm planning and i've discovered that the model I own does not have fixing points easily accessible on the roof. I don't want to fit bars to the door frames and would like to know what my options are. I have found posts where people have mentioned pulling off the trim to reveal the fixing points? This sounds a little hairy to me, is this something a Skoda dealer would be able to sort for me? Cheers guys!

Don't you have thin black strips running along about 75mm above the door edges with small black plastic clips at intervals? I thought all Fabias including estates had those?

Correction - see next posting - you learn something new every day on here!

Our old 2001 comfort estate didn't have the factory roof bars or the cutouts in the black strips that the hatches have. I think the only way to put roofbars on it would be to get generic aftermarket ones for gutterless cars. Retro-fitting the factory roof bars would be prohibitively expensive, and you'd have to drop the headlining and possibly drill the roof even if you did buy all the parts.

What a con!

What a con! You'd have thought they'd allow you to fix the standard hatchback roof bars if you didn't order the optional roof bars!

You're not wrong! I couldn't believe it when I looked into it - who would guess the estate car would be less practical than the hatch in that respect!
