TSI intake

Featured Replies

Anyone fitted an air intake on the TSI engine lads? From a quick look i cant believe the money they are asking for them. I understand that they take some development and testing to get right but i would pay up to about £150 for one but £250 is crazy!

I have a crack in the standard housing on mine and looked about and breakers want about £50 for a replacement and prob would just buy a decent panel filter, but think that while its off i might aswell fit a CAI kit now. Do they really give like 10bhp or is that bo**ox compared to a good panel replacement? Any help appreciated

yes they do give very good gains. the options i am aware of are the EVOMS powerflow available from JKM and the ITG maxogen.

heres a build thread here with ingfo about the ITG linky. he logged gains of 20g/s+ which equates t around 15Hp-20Hp gains alone. JKMs TSI vRS made around 254Hp without the intake, and is now running 277Hp with the intake and same map

as for price, the TSI is a lot cheaper than the TFSI intakes by a fair margin

Cheers for the reply mate. I have been having a look about and was reading the JKM octavia build on their site the other day and fair play the mk6 GTI link on here is an interesting one thank you (mad how many times he has changed the wheels on that car!). I like the look of the Carbonio kit, but seem to be leaning towards the ITG one as seems very well developed. Really dont wanna be spending nearly £250 on an intake, but there aint really any other choices out there under the £200 mark except a nuespeed one i seen somewhere at £170 ish but aint seen any tests on it yet.

Also when i think of £250 getting me about 12bhp when im remapped makes it seem that bit more feasible although still think these companies are laughing all the way to the bank as aint exactly space age tech now is it (more clean air = more power).

Right than after a fair bit of research ive ended up ordering this:

ad87627f.jpg

Its made by BSH and i got it from Parts4Euro for £221 delivered from USA (which i find laughable due to the prices for one over here)

Anyway the important things now :). Info taken from the tech specs:

After months of design and testing BSH is pleased to release its all new one piece TSI race intake. While simple in appearance considerable attention had to be given to both the size and exact location of the MAF sensor.

To ensure factory like drive-ability and the best possible performance considerable resources were invested into creating a computerized air flow model of the factory intake tubing in all of its different dimensions and shape changes and found the point in the plumbing where a single diameter pipe flowed the same as the factory air intake in the factory position at the maf. This is what it takes to make the best part available for the platform. As soon as we had this data we were able to pick the right location right away and its been perfect on all test vehicles since.

At cruising the filter is very docile and does not intrude on the daily commute. However, put the pedal down and its a whole new game. Picked up 9 bhp on the dyno on a completely standard 2010 golf GTI. Gains expected to be higher on a chipped car by 3-5 horsepower

Looking at the pics and website

With this "race" intake the MAF is moved from next to the battery to the rear of the engine.

Is this correct ? Does moving the MAF make a difference ?

yea mate can see it in the pics at the rear of the engine and basically they created the smoothest airflow tube they could and then placed the maf sensor at the rear of the engine where the flow was the same as the standard maf position to prevent error codes being generated. When i priced up other complete intakes to the turbo they were over £100 more expensive and didnt look as clean as this one (except one other that i cant remember the name of but looks very similar but doesnt have any welds showing but was more expensive). From what i have read and heard (few clips on youtube of them fitted) this will be perfect for me as dont want it loud on a motorway cruise, but when you gun it, it makes a nice deep note (not saxo style though lol). Looking forward to fitting it now and hopefully getting my car finished for xmas :)

Good answer thanks

Enjoy it

BSh intakes do perform well on the TFSI, so i dont doubt that this one will perform on the TSI as well

Looking forward to a review when this is fitted.
