Cruise control

Featured Replies

Hi

The cruise control on my Octavia has started to fail. It disengaged itself while I was on a long drive, and since then has worked intermitently. When I took it to my local dealer they confirmed that the log showed that the cruise control had a 'sporadic fault'. It worked fine on their test drive, of course. They told me they had 'cleared the fault' but the reality was that all they had done was erase the record of the fault, and otherwise done nothing apart from charge me.

The cruise control still regularly fails, but now sometimes exhibits another curious behaviour - when it is engaged and I operate the rocker switch to decrease the speed, the speed increases!

The garage suggest changing the control stalk, but I am not sure that this is the cause of the problem. Does anyone have any experience of similar problems and know how to cure them?

They do fail pretty frequently, you can first try taking the CC switch apart from the stalk and cleaning it before fitting a new stalk.

I cleaned mine with a cotton bud sprayed with wd40. The cotton bud was black afterwards, but cc came back to life.

Thanks very much for the suggestion. How do I go about taking the switch apart? Are there any instructions available anywhere?

It could be a clutch/brake switch.

If you're carefull, recommend using something plastic or if careful with a screwdriver, simply split the stalk where you see the join that runs the length of the stalk. From there quite easy to work out. You will need a T10 and/or T20 driver from memory.

Thanks a lot, that's really helpful.

Hi all,

I just got myself an Octy, Can they all be retrofitted with cruise control? Would I just need to get myself a stalk?
