Sports Suspension--or not?

Featured Replies

Im just about to order a 2.0TDI Elegance estate and like the look of the Sports Suspension.

Problem is I cant get a demo with it on a nd Ive heard its quite solid.

Anybody got any experience/comments about this please.

Thanks

Brian

Weve got a demo with it on, one opinion...get it!

The car handles very well indeed and I havent heard anyone complain about it as yet. looks very nice on the 17" wheels, I want one.

Hi Brian

Take a trip to Milton Keynes and try the car fitted with optional sports suspension, what one person sees as good may not be the same for everyone (althought Ross is usually a pretty good judge ;) )

You never know you may get a better deal in MK ;)

i thought the general opinion on here when discussing the Sport suspension on the Octy II was "Get it".

Don't get it. You'll hate every minute when you're not driving on twisty B roads. The standard octy 2 handles really well for what it is, but the ride is very firm as a result. Actually, the ride is downright dreadful at times and can be really painful on a bumpy road, so god knows how bad the sports springs will be.

So there you go, two differing opinions.

Gonna have to be a test drive or take a gamble.

Can anyone post a piccy of the car with the sports suspension + 17" wheels? pref side profile???

local dealer has an non estate version in red with the sports supension and 17s. Very nice indeed.

Personally I was going to go for this option, seemed good value, however because it would of delayed my order even longer than the 3 Months wait I already had and was looking likely to be another month because of Crimbo I decided against it.

IMHO

The Pro's:

Nicer looking Alloys

Slightly lowered suspension

The Con's

Spare Wheel is a runner and not an alloy the same as the other four

Wheel Size 17" and tyres mores expensive

Insurance Company might want additional premium

Firmer Ride not as comfortable on long journeys.

Other Points

My original concern with the Skoda was after driving a Passat anything other than the Sports Suspension felt very bouncy, however having driven the Octy 2.0TDi on a test drive I felt the suspension and ride was pretty firm.

The Sales Manager where I bought my Octy from had a 2.0TDi as his own Car with the Sports Suspension and he reported that the ride whilst a lot firmer and stable at high speed around bends, was a lot harsher and tiring on long journeys.

Depends what you want, you pays your money and takes your choice, but me at 38 with family and doing around 1K miles a week want the comfort, it would however be nice to switch on the sports suspension for the occasional chance I get for a weekend blast in the Car :)

Same colour as our demo aswell.

Have to agree - I think Sports suspension is a mixed blessing. The standard car already handles pretty well, and although the 17" alloys do look the business IMHO the standard suspension is the better bet, and I hate space saver spare tyres (which is what you get with with the 17s). Add in the increased price of tyres and the standard setup looks even more attractive!

The five spoke alloys do look nice though

Anyone know how the Sports suspension compares with the aftermarket kits and is it just lowering springs or are the dampers replaced as well? :)

Chris

No bumpy B roads in Holland, so here it's even more of a no-brainer. It's "Get it" all round. Have tried it myself and found it excellent. Unexpectedly comfortable in a straight line, very late understeer (and quite enjoyable lift-off oversteer) through corners.
