RAD FANS ISSUE?

Featured Replies

Right i am getting a bit paranoid about my rad fans, ever since i bought the car one rad fan runs constantly regardless of engine temp etc, i noticed the other day that after the car had been running the fan wasn't running it was a cold day though below 0c, and yesterday when i went to college the fan was running again??? i have changed the sensor in the rad, also the car runs at 90c the whole time dosn't move from 90c, the rad aint even hot after a drive all the hoses are nice and warm the gauge dosn't move so there aint any over heating issues but i would like to know whats causing this if anyone can help?

If you have the Climate Control on auto, one of the rad fans should be on to help cool the A/C compressor. Try switching to econ, & the fan should stop.

The larger fan is for the aircon. It spins all the time the a/c is on regardless of engine temp. The a/c doesn't function below a certain temp, about 3c I believe so that would be why it wasn't spinning on the cold day.

So basically i don't have a issue then?

Probably not :giggle:

Well was back in college today and the fan wasn't on at all on the trip down and back from college, the ambient temp was only 1c so i am obviously seriously paranoid in thinking that i have a issue just wanted to know why it was running the whole time.

Just another quick question :giggle: How long should it take before the fans kick in while the cars idleing? I know the temperature is way below 0c at the moment but i left the car idleing for at least 30mins tonight and came out expecting the fans to be on but nothing, i had a feel round all the rad hoses they were warm but not roasting the rad was quite cold, is this normal for this time of year?

fans will not run constantly - if you want to check they are working leave it idling and watch the fans

however i htink you are being paranoid - if the temp guage is rock solid 90c there should be no issue

Yeah the gauge sits rock solid at 90c all the time, so i don't have a issue? iam just way to paranoid lol my last car had issues with rad fans and overheating don't fancy it happening again

Get a grip man :giggle:

The temperature gauge is anything but accurate - it'll read 90 when it gets to 70, and then stay there as the real temperature catches up :) If it ever goes way over 90 you'll know you have an issue, but until then it's best not to worry :)

My mate has a golf anniversary and he is really paranoid about the fans and a bit of a fan geek so to speak. Apparently under a certain temperature the a/c fan will not come on to prevent damage to the condenser. Also at these cool temperatures the engine fan will probably not be required, I do a 35 mile commute to work and even after that its not required. -10 when I set off and -2 when I got to work. Just keep an eye on the coolant and the temp gauge.

Yeah i think i am just to paranoid and a bit of a fan geek :giggle: , the gauge dosn't move from 90c and my coolant is at the correct level, just seems weird that leaving the car for that amount of time idleing and the fans don't kick in, ill keep my eye on gauge coolant etc
