Windows 7 Network Error

Featured Replies

I've been having a weird error on Windows 7 over the past few days with a couple of machines, and I'm not really sure what could be causing it.

On a couple of machines, trying to access any exe on a network share brings up the error message below. The file is fine, and can be accessed on any other machine on the network. Copying the file into My Documents etc works fine. Once the file has been copied to a local folder, it then runs fine from the local drive.

Restarting the PC seems to get rid of it for a while, but then it randomly happens again. Diagnose runs through its checks, but then reports that nothing was wrong.

The two I've had problems with, one is 7 Home Premium, and the other is 7 Ultimate.

Anyone with any ideas?

Probably a security issue... I suspect Windows thinks you've mapped to the drive as one user and are running the exe as another... especially if it's something that requires UAC in order to run

Hmm weird as the drives are mapped without any extra credentials specified.

The only other thing I've seen that causes that error is anti-virus software. Sometime it takes longer to scan the file than Windows is prepared to wait, this should only happen on large files though (and with any luck the AV vendors have all solved this issue by no anyway as the last time I saw this was several years ago)

That error code is almost always security/permissions related though... (at least it is when I've come across it)

Hmm well without changing anything on both of these computers, the problem seems to have disappeared as quickly as it appeared.
