Castrol RS 0-40 Fully synthetic oil

Featured Replies

I have 5 litres of this stuff i bought for my Escort RS2000 and wondered if i could use this in my VRS if i stick to non variable servicing? Any opinions on if it is safe to use.

The specs say Exceeds API SJ/CF ACEA A3/B3/B4

Wouldn't do it , would stick to the VAG stuff.

Steve

I would only use an oil which meets one of the recommended VW specs - which in this case is VW 500 00 or 502 00 (multigrade high lubricity oils) or VW 501 01 (multigrade oil). ACEA A2 or A3 - 96 oil may only be used once for topping up within the specified exchange cycle if no approved engine oil is available.

Update: See Guy's (oilman) post below. Castrol RS 0W-40 also meets specs VW 502 00 and 505 00 so is OK.

5 Litres of oil are cheap in comparison to an engine rebuild :(

Go with the oil which meets the correct VW spec. for your engine

Thanks for that info, Guy. But the message is still to check that the appropriate VW specs are on the label. I've updated my post above. :o

No problem. :thumbup::thumbup:

Yes the bottom line is these cars need VAG spec approved oil, you must always check with your hand book for the recomended VW spec and then go from there.

Cheers

Guy.
