My Snow Monster. It snowed overnight here in South Yorkshire, left a couple of inches. I'm full of cold otherwise I would go out in the car and play in the snow.

Yes taken this morning near Melton Mowbray East Mids. More snow on the way I think. And I've got a fourball booked at the Belfry for 9:30am tomorrow!

-4 deg C according to the car at 10 this morning, this being followed by snow at lunch time. Had a sudden rise in temperature about an hour ago; everything is thawing helped by occasional light rain or sleet.

If it goes cold again the roads are going to be horrendous in the morning :o

WIMPS!!

Just been told it was -15 here last night!!

Bloody drain from the kitchen has frozen, so looks like I have got to take the dishwasher and washing machine out to check the pipes instead of going for a drive.

And it's still -6 outside!!!

And further down the page a great comparison of 205/55x16 and 215/60x16 tyres on the same car.

Yes but I am still cycling in it not in a warm car

Hmmmm. Interesting, that is 33mm larger diameter, which implies the 205/55 R16 has a lower ground clearance of 16.5mm - 163.5mm.

I think I'll stick with the 215/60 R16's with the higher (normal) ground clearance.

IMHO the 215's look better...emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Yes, id have to agree with that. Ive noticed the car sits slightly lower, reducing ground clearance, on the winters I have on there now. (205/55/16's)

Well it had to be done. Took the Monster north east on Saturday towards Norwich. Had a late start after struggling to fit the roof bars (they do not supply you with the special wrench needed to fix the screws to the bars! Grrr) so could not venture too far but at last some pictures of my Monster in snow:

So you like paying more to run your SM - having the cross roof bars on all the time?

Mike

LOL no. They went on to go and buy a Christmas tree in Essex - we buy real ones from a tree farm there. But only when we did the snow and started to check out the farm website did we see that they are only open from 1st to 24th of December! Doh!

Glad to see that you got out at the weekend.

My SM is now at Sheerness, just waiting for a transporter now. I might get it by the weekend with any luck.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Should be ready for the trip up to Scotland later this month, though Swinbo did say we aren't going up if there is as much snow as there is at the moment - Scotland (which part no idea) id expecting 10 inches today.

I suspect that even the SM on snow tyres will struggle with several feet of snow emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Maybe I should invest in some snow socks, as it is not recommended to fit snow chains to 215/60 R16's at the front.

I wonder why snow chains are not recommended for the front axle?

Mike

Snowsocks on the front, chains on the rear then emoticon-0136-giggle.gifemoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Saying on the radio this morning Scotland is pretty much gridlocked even on the motorway network emoticon-0124-worried.gif

Thanks TP.

We're not leaving until the weekend before christmas, so will play it by weather forecast. emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

My Monster is also heading for Scotland this winter but for Hogmanay in Edinburgh. So hopefully the roads will have thawed a tiny bit by then.

Well, too bad, but at least those outside drain pipes in the UK are so much easier to thaw, right? :giggle:
