Real Snow Monsters!

Ta!

Cured the problem. Blasted tap was dripping all night and it had frozen where it goes through the wall. Stupid modern tap with no washer, just a ceramic bit that you can't replace, so new tap bought and waiting for the plumber to come and fit it.

Not looking forward to my trip to work at 0400 in the morning!!

Simon,

I'm not sure all of us residents would always agree with that comment, but yes, you are correct. We currently own the last shop in the row. (Pets and Gardens)

Glad to see that you got out at the weekend.

My SM is now at Sheerness, just waiting for a transporter now. I might get it by the weekend with any luck.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Should be ready for the trip up to Scotland later this month, though Swinbo did say we aren't going up if there is as much snow as there is at the moment - Scotland (which part no idea) id expecting 10 inches today.

I suspect that even the SM on snow tyres will struggle with several feet of snow emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Maybe I should invest in some snow socks, as it is not recommended to fit snow chains to 215/60 R16's at the front.

I wonder why snow chains are not recommended for the front axle?

Mike

Whereabouts in Scotland are you going? The West coast isn't too bad, but once you go further North than the Firth of Forth, most locals are staying home and avoiding the roads where possible. We've about 3-4 feet here in Central Scotland, and I will be working from home tomorrow!

TP,

Oh I knew how to repair! It is trying to get the correct cartridge that is the problem. Do you know how many there are? The guy I spoke to at the Plumbers Merchants says they have over 250 different models listed on their system!!

A friend is a plumber in Swansea, and his advice was to bin it and buy a new tap, which is what I have done.

Nearest landmark is Gleneagles. I won't be playing or visiting there....I wouldn't have a clue as which end of the stick to use. emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Hi Graham,

your mate is right if the discs are shot then quickest and easiest thing is to replace. At one time there was a fairly common standard as most plumbing appliances and materials where UK made (a small washer kit fixed most things). Now fixtures and fittings are from all over the place, maybe even Tibet (tentative Yeti connection ;) ).

Some Plumbers me included, refer to bathroom suites particularly form certain well known DIY stores and even worse flee-bay as Greakeo - leakeo due to being manufactured in various Mediterranean locations :S

Even some of the well known 'British' names are now going the same way, as manufacturing has moved abroad. However if you want decent fittings then try Pegler My link

Well, well. I've learnt two things today. For number one the Superb II forum told me how to save my electric seat settings correctly between two keys and number two that TP is in fact really a plumber!! There I was thinking it was code for, well, I really don't know what!!! Cluedo? A hitman? :giggle:

Big Husky - Stunning dogs. They posed beautifully for the camera as well.

I don't know about you but I am fed up of the white stuff now. The Yeti has been fantastic though, it has earned its place in our house this past week. The one thing that has been good is that I've had the A1 going north of Morpeth to myself each morning as very few cars can cope with it.

Thanks TP, will bookmark them.

Think of me at 0400, folks, as I try to get to work. Currently -3 here and still snowing slightly, but i have just taken one of the wife's friends home, up that snowy track again, and at least the main road is clearish.

Night night. :(

Think of me at 0400, folks, as I try to get to work

Nah, no good, Graham - I did try, but I was too fast asleep at 0400 to think of you!

However - best efforts, eh? I thought of you just as I fell asleep at 2330, and again when I got up to visit the bog at 0137, and fin all I did think of you when I woke up with the arrival of the rubbish men at 0735, and once more when I rose for a leisurely breakfast with the tits and Robin redbreasts on the patio (well, poetic elasticity there for the sake of creating the right mood - I was gazing at the patio from inside) at 0815, having stretched, slung on the robe, broken wind and scratched everywhere that needed a scratch.

And, having thought such a lot of you, I considered that I was so much better placed than you on this particular day and at all these particular hours, for once! I might even go for a lie down soon. All this thinking is exhausting.

Thank you George, don't exhaust yourself now!

Lovely and warm here in the box, but snowing hard outside, and it is making one of my signals very heavy.

If this carries on I may be looking for a hotel room here tonight.

Yes Johann they seem to come 'alive' when it snows and need extended walks which is knackering me :giggle: The bigger dog (blade) will not go back into the car and just wants to play. He often finds a frozen puddles and eats the thick ice, like a sort of 'slush puppy'. I guess that's what there designed for, when you think Siberia can go as low as minus 60 in the winter!!

Thanks Edmund, glad to hear your 4 wheel drive system is doing its job! Local news said parts of Northumberland have crazy amounts of snow.

I dunno if you noticed on the photo of Kimmi (ginger/white) you can just make out the North sea at her eye level.? Walking here every morning (the Lea's) you have no shelter from the biting wind, and it can be a few degrees colder then inland.

1 of the kids has had to stay home with me all week, as her school , like many here, is shut. Thankfully I work frrom home.

I haven't been stuck in snow driving the Yeti since monday, fingers crossed. Though the ASR light flashes a lot as I'm losing traction as I get to a higher gear as possible.

I've noticed half the cars in my street haven't moved since the weekend. Plus the bins haven't been collected in over a week. It snows and the country comes to a standstill.

West of Scotland has been fine. Just a few inches almost every day for the last week. Yeti sailing through it all (on factory fitted tyres). Eastern Scotland much worse, paticularly the Borders and North east. How are Yeti owners getting on there?

I'm in the North East and we are in our 7th day of heavy snow and ice. The Yeti, also factory tyres, is working brilliantly without a single issue so far. It has coped with everything that has been thrown at it, including large chunks of my daily commute on untreated surfaces. If anyone was in any doubt about could this car cope in a UK winter then my experience would say worry no more. I have not tried going through fields or anything silly but I have travelled easily on roads that other cars simply can not cope with. It has often only been me, Mitsubishi's, X-Trails and Freelanders on my roads and that is pretty good company.

I would add however that I am also VERY bored of snow and ice now and can it please go away, partly as I have nowhere to throw the snow from my driveway as it is banked up 5ft high on either side. I know I could try to make it 6ft but that is a long way up and I am only small. :giggle:

Oh, I might have to dig my SM out tomorrow. Got fed up with clearing the snow then it covering the car again. We walked half a mile to the shops today, nothing like your trek Lee, as I reckoned it would take longer, and more effort, to clear the car of snow and clear enough snow to be able to open the gate of my parking area. Not to mention tht a half mile journey would not get the engine warm. Never seen so many people walking in the village before and never seen Netto so busy :D
