Sidelights

Featured Replies

My side lights have stopped working, rears work but no fronts!!

Both fuses and bulbs are fine, one worked for 5 mins the other day then nothing again :-(

Anyone else had this problem or know what it could be, going to try get my mates vagcom fault reader today, hopefully that will show up what's wrong...

Cheers

checked the bulbs i take it?

matt

If the filaments in the bulbs look OK try cleaning up the base of them with some wet and dry or sand paper, then try again. I've had bulbs before where the bulb has gone although the filament looks OK, so if that doesn't work try a new pair of bulbs - they're cheap enough.

Hi guys, sorry forgot to mention they are month old led bulbs, they are the ones that people on here recommend, maybe they are broken...

Try removing, turning 180 degrees and putting back in. LED bulbs are polarity sensitive.

Unfortunately LED's don't seem to last as well as they are sometimes advertised. I have some rather expensive ones from Ultraled's, I've had 2 replaced now (luckily they have 12 month guarantee), only had them since August! Bit of a pain in the backside though to keep having to send them back.

Yeah, turned out to be rubbish bulbs, whilst taking one out it knocked off something and worked, flicked it a few times and everytime it would light up and go back out, so ordered some ultra White normal side bulbs. Hopefully never have problem again :-), cheers

I sent mine back today - only put in a month ago and one's gone...

I'd be inclined to gently bend the contact wires outward slightly so that they

push out against the contacts when pushed into the bulbholder. One of my interior lights (Using same LEDs...)

was flickery and after I tinkered with the position of the wire contacts on the offending LED the problem was solved.

It's easy to test if the LED is faulty with a couple of short lengths of wire with the ends stripped and a small 12v battery.

I use an old battery from an emergency lighting system when testing 12v accesories. It's powerful enough to power up

a stereo or usb socket etc, but won't fry anything important if I wire something up wrong when I'm piddling about with

leds and stuff. It also means I can test things out in the living room in the warm before I venture outside to fit them.

I must have been lucky with the 3 pairs of these I have bought so far. I have them in both our Fabias and in the

interior lights in mine, aside from the little hiccup with the flickering when installing them originally all mine have been fine.

No failures yet and the ones in my vRS have been in for over a year. Sorry to hear you've been having issues with yours. :(

which ones did you buy out of curiosity, i bought the ones some people recommend off here :smirk:

I was a bit more high tech than that. I used a 12V mains adaptor which has several plugs, one of which is just right to connect with both contacts
