Diesels always warm up slower than petrol, and with the cold weather yours seems quite normal.

thanks for the reply, would changing the stat to a winter one make any difference.bill

No, the diesel takes longer to warm up than a petrol, as its more thermally efficient. More of the energy is converted into power than heat so it takes longer to warm up.

My PD140 is the same, changing the stat will make no difference since the stat will still be closed. Diesels take many miles to warm up, leaving them running on the drive is bad since they may never warm up in the cold weather.

Something is wrong with your car. My 140 PD is fully heated after 5 miles, started from -15 C!

My CR170 takes an age to heat up from stone cold when it is -2 outside and thats when driving at a constant 60mph.

MY 2 PD140s were the same as well. A reluctance to warm up is the sign of an efficient engine emoticon-0144-nod.gif Blocking the rad off and/or changing the stat will make no real difference.

As long as the temperature is maintained when driving normally once up to 90 degrees C you have nothing to worry about, if the temperature drops off rapidly when driving along you could have a duff thermostat.

I've noticed my CR170 takes quite a few miles to warm up, it's takes longer than my previous Mondeo Mk3 TDCi did, luckily for me shivering away inside it, I have the heated seats.
