Octavia I 1.6 fuel consumption

Featured Replies

Recently got a 1.6 (8 valve) Octavia estate 1999. I just wondered what MPG I should be getting. I have not serviced it yet, but it doesn't seem that great at the moment. Changed the thermostat as it was running cool. I will change the spark plugs next, as I don't know when they were last changed. Seems to run ok, no smelly exhaust etc.

When I had mine, it tended to be about 35 - 38mpg. Best I ever did was 43mpg.

Mine does up to 40mpg on a long run, not being too hard on it. Best I have had was 45mpg driving it very gently! On the way to work I have very steep hills (being rural mid wales) and get between 25 and 35mpg! It does depend how you drive it. On a fast long run maybe mid 30's.

I regularly drive from East Anglia to Cornwall, usually return 49 to 52.5 mpg in my 1.6. Around town it's usually about 32 mpg.
