Temp Gauge Issue

Featured Replies

Hello,

Felicia 1.3 v reg

Temp gauge is staying near 70 going a bit above getting up 60 - 70 mph. Getting plenty of hot air out of heater so dont think thermostat is stuck open. Is it likely to be the temp sender as opposed to thermostat

cheers

Temp Sender is the number one problem, I think. You can measure it with a multimeter if you have one (there's a thread on here somewhere about it with pics)...

Earlier my temp guage was reading funny, was driving around town and the temp got up to just over 90, then went back down to just over 60, then settled at just below 90 as it usually does. Plenty of hot air all the time and I don't think it has any air locks and the coolant level is all good (it had the HG done recently)

I did a guide, which is more-or-less applicable to the 1.3:

While you have the sensor out, take a look through the hole it sits in. If you can see a spring or any other metal parts through the hole, then your thermostat body has failed. It's worth getting the non-OEM one from Jorily, as the 'stat is held in with a circlip and not two plastic lugs which become brittle over time.

changed the temp sender doing exactly the same so guess its thermostat related.

Did notice that around the two halves of the housing look s like some kind of instant gasket red stuff around it on the outside.

If you let it stand idling, does it eventually warm up enough for the fan to kick in? That would pretty much confirm a thermostat issue if it does.

Also remember the Felicia heater is pretty fierce normally, so don't let the warm air fool you - mine had a collapsed thermostat fully stuck-open when I got it and even in that state the heater wasn't noticeably worse than some cars I've driven.

The red coolant does make a bit of a pinky-white crust around small leaks, so it might just be that. Another reason to think about a new 'stat body though, as whether it's been repaired or is just leaky, it suggests the O-ring has gone...

Coming home tonight driving stayed steady about 80 c in traffic queue hit 100 c but then back to under 80 , this was after driving an hour , letting it idle at home reading 70 ish all pipes warm rad warm so think must be thermostat sticking or jammed open , so going to get mk2 housing.

All sorted , new housing and flushed and filled with new g12 ++ as it had blue coloured stuff in, all good now , fan cuts in lots of hot air, sits at 90 all conditions,

so for now its all good.
