When we they let us pick tyres on new car?

When will they let us pick tyres on new car?

Picked up 1.8 TSI DSG L&K on Saturday and it came with Bridgestone Poternza RE050s, so poor.

Was quite disappointed with the Dunlop Sport Maxx GTs on SWMBOs TSI VRS and was glad to replace the front hoops with Michelin Pilot Sport 3s now much better on her car but I am now back in the same place ie low grip.

Bridgestone Potenzas are only traction rating A rather than AA and tyres are quite poor in the wet.

What to do, get another Alloy or Two and get PS3s on those rims perhaps.

It would be so great if we could choose our hoops when we order the car!

I got Bridgestones too on my L&K - not amazingly impressed with them tbh - have noticed some tramlining on rough tarmac.Think I'll swap to Michelin or Continental when they need doing - Michelins transformed my old Mazda 6 when I swapped onto them from Bridgestone.I've heard some good reports on Continentals - do any Briskodians have a view?

I like Conti SC3 for summer use.

My old 1.9 tdi elegance estate came with Bridgestones - didn't like them, too noisy. New 1.4 tsi I got 3 weeks ago came with Conti SC2, they seem better but given the choice I would go for Michelin.

Yes Bridgestone tyres in this case are poor. Michelin PS3 are much better than either then Dunlops SM GT or Potenzas, Contis good too and I wish my 1.8 had come with them as now I have to spend £250 to change the front hoops.

the Potenzas are so poor on my L&K that I'll NEVER buy a Bridgestone tyre again.

I wonder if certain tyres are better on certain cars? I put RE050As on my RX-8 on the advice of the owners club, and they were excellent.

I think most Brit's don't give two hoots about what make of rubber they get! As long as it's got air in and some rubber on it as was reading in the Telegraph last week.

james.

God knows what kind of negotiations does VW with tire manufacturers. I guess it's not all in the pricing, but it would be interesting how and why do they decide for different tires on same cars but different markets.
