Steel wheels and winter tyres question

Featured Replies

2. I haven't been able to locate any official Skoda advice on winter tyre sizes, but my driver's handbook mentions sizes that will & will not accept Snow Chains. They are the OE tyre 205/45 R16, 195/50 R15 & 185/60 R14.

The link in #23 didn't work for me ... http://www.skoda-auto.de/sitecollectiondocuments/serienreifen_skoda_2014_07_1.pdf

Info for 6Y Fabia with ASZ is on page 41 onwards. It says 205/45 R16 83V on 6.5Jx16 offset 42 or 37 does not allow snow chains, or 185/55 R15 83H on 6Jx15 offset 43 allows the use of snow chains. As others have said, 14" wheels don't fit over standard front calipers.

Sorry to revive this thread from the dead, but that looks amazing! What's the part number for the steel wheels? (Are they easy to get hold of 2nd hand?) I wonder what they do indeed look like on the Mk1 estate.........Many thanks.

I needed a set of winters for my daily Vrs, so purchased a set of 4 x original Fabia Vrs spare steel wheels in the 16” size, paid £40 for all four then fitted a new set of 205/45/16 nankang snow tyres.

Looked pretty grim on bare steelies so I sourced a set of early VW Bora 16” S wheel trims, and changed the centre badges for some cheap skoda domed ones off eBay, looks half decent now!

Obviously transformed the car in the recent bad weather!

Incidentaly the Fabia standard steel spare wheel is exactly the same as those fitted to various VW models, such as Beetle and Bora etc. Plus the radius seat wheel bolts are a direct fit.

Now that looks ace, Lofty. I'm really wanting to move away from my 15 inch alloys (standard fitment) I've just bought four new tyres for them, and the ride is good, but they look lost in the arches. Any idea what the part number is on the VRS steelies/Bora trims? Also, what options are there for cheap 16 inch alloys that would bolt straight on my Fabby? Cheers.

Is this the right steel wheel for the Fabia?
