Hi there all!

My beloved Skoda Felicia 1.9 diesel estate is coming to the end of its long and faithful life, and I am now looking for a second hand Fabia estate with which to replace it. I have around £4,000 available, and I'm trying to choose between 1.2 petrol (where I can get a pretty low mileage Fabia), 1.4 petrol (slightly more expensive, perhaps more expensive to run, too? But stronger?), and 1.9 diesel (where the mileages available seem to be quite a bit higher). Which should I go for? Is the diesel stronger and more reliable? Which is more important in a second hand Skoda, low-mileage or a bigger engine? I'd really appreciate some opinions.

Thanks!

I'd go for either a 1.4TDI or 1.9TDI, wouldn't bother with the small engined petrols to be honest.

SWMBO has a 2004 1.4TDI with 75BHP and it is far nicer to drive than my 1.4 16v 100bhp petrol was.

Hi and welcome aboard.

As long as the car has a good service history you should be fine as it shows the car has been looked after.

For me it has to be diesel all the way, you won't go wrong with a 1.4TDI either.

As long as it has service history and looks like it's been looked after then none of the above in the poll is particularly important. Except...I would without doubt go with the PD engine either 1422cc or 1.9. Both as you know indestructible, economical, and very powerful. I totally agree with Skodaboy on this one. Let us all know what you decide upon. Good luck mate.

Welcome! The ones you are looking at are most likely newer than this, but the earlier 1.4 16vs had problems with piston ring failures (AUB was the engine code - avoid these!).

Otherwise I'd echo the words of the others re. service history etc. emoticon-0148-yes.gif
