Random madness with electrics today?!

Featured Replies

Anyone else had this happen to them, or even know what the cause is?

Driving along today in the freezing cold, and noticed,

1) the mirrors were operating in reverse (ie left controlled the right and vice versa (no i don't mean the VAG left/right switch combo))

2) the drivers electric window switches were flipped - drivers side button, opened the passenger's window, passenger switch opened the drivers!!

3) central locking button didn't lock or unlock the car (fortunatly the car wasn't locked with me in it!)

Pulled into the petrol station, shut off ignition, started up again, and guess what, everything was fixed!

What causes that?

Anyone else had this before?

Quite common, the comfort control module sometimes throws a wobbly. Could be dry solder joints on it's plug connections, or your battery may be getting on a bit.

I have no input and i beleive the Q has been answered in the post above ^

but...

Having this happen to me would confuse the hell outt'a me. Would think im going crazy :giggle:

Thats is all :) Hope it gets fixed!

The symptoms quoted sound like the comfort module thought it was LHD (you can make it do at least some of the things mentioned by telling it it's LHD in VCDS), so it's quite feasible that it just flipped out there for a moment and came back when you restarted the car. Centralised control electronics are going to be the new black magic for technicians - I can see it coming!

Cheers.

Yep it did seem like it was in LHD mode!

I do think the battery is on the way out, I've tried to trickle charger it a few times too, but it does sound like a struggle to start sometimes (even after letting the glow plugs warm).

Hopefully it isn't a failure of the CCM, as I'm sure they aren't cheap.

Any tips on where to get a powerful replacement battery? (my car is a 2002 100bhp 1.9TDI)

bosch silverstar

cranking current 780A

all the battery you will ever need

Well battery failed to start up the car today after the car wasn't driven for 2days.

Got a Bosch Silver 72ah 680A battery from Eurocarparts, £84 inc vat.

Would have got the 74ah bosch one, but they didn't have stock till tomorrow
