Some questions before I order

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Almost :) my first post on here but I've been trawling through the forum for a little while doing a bit of research.

I recently had a Superb elegance 170 diesel estate for a week long test drive and was able to back to back test with the new 520 D touring (touring) and the E220D Sport Estate (Auto) over consecutive weekends. On a variety of counts, the Superb (I have to admit to my surprise) was the winner so I'm going to be putting in an order soon; though I can't say I'm looking forward to the wait for delivery.

Anyway, a few questions that you can hopefully help with.

1) Does anyone have the Anthracite Luxor wheels that are listed in the accessories catalogue? I've found two images so far on the web (the one below and the one in the accessories catalogue), but both look almost identical to the normal Luxor and I was expecting anthracite wheels to be quite a bit darker than they appear. I'm a bit reluctant to spec them without seeing a reasonable (non-studio) picture first.

I also take it that the Luxors have to be be bought as an extra set of wheels as they aren't a factory option? (thinking about using the standard 17s for winter tyres if that's the case).

2) I was going to go for a 170 DSG, but I'd like 4x4 as well, which is pushing me towards a 140. I think I read on here that they're about to or have just started production on the 140 4x4 DSG estate, so with it being a new model, does it have a shorter waiting list? Does anyone know the actual delivery times for the 170 elegance GSG estate and the 140 Elegance DSG 4x4 estate?

3) Is there a panoramic sunroof option in the UK? I've seen it mentioned a few times but it's not on the options list (saloon only)?

Thanks in advance!

I think they look like the normal Luxors that need a clean. Not sure if you can spec them on your order.

Pano roof now dropped in UK, but maybe available in the Republic of Somewhere.

I don't know the exact delivery time, but my order for a 140CR 4x4 DSG was placed in early September, was initially supposed to arrive January, now I am told "worst case scenario is late February" but I'll believe that when I see it. The vehicle is being shipped to New Zealand, so that adds a month or two to delivery.

I think it will be worth the wait though.

I'm not a car cleaner so I could live with that :) A spare set of wheels isn't a bad thing, particularly with the current weather.

That's quite a good delivery time Jim, I'd have expected 12 weeks minimum on any car. I know it's not guaranteed but it's a lot better than the other models. Maybe that's the one to go for then

It was rumoured a few weeks ago that the 4x4 Superbs were built in Germany as the Czech plant was not tooled for the 4x4. I seem to remember this was offered as an explanation for Phil's spectacularly short 10 week lead-time.

Now whether this is both true and would apply to the CR140 DSG 4x4 I cannot say. Maybe it is something to quiz your dealer about.

Best regards

David

my dealer told me it was a german built car too.... again, a 4x4 170 manual, ordered in Feb, and delivered late April 2010.

Al.

As for the pano roof: to the best of my knowledge there is a general shortage of supply in Czech plant, so no roofs till Spring 2011. May be UK dealers can tell you a different story, but that's what Russian dealers tell me.

I just place order with panorama roof, and dealer told me it will take longer because of that. But rough estimate was end of February, tomorrow I'll get confirmation from factory.
