Snow, Snow and more Snow! When is it going away?!

Featured Replies

my cars been stuck since Tuesday! our lane is not gritted by the council and is on a steep slope! so I can sympathise with everyone still 'snowed in' . Trouble is a lot of people find this hard to believe if they live on through roads etc..

So much for Global Warming!

I hope it's better by next weekend - I am supposed to be driving down the east coast from Edinburgh to Middlesbrough.

A1 A19 n A66 North of Middlesbrough keep getting blocked by accidents and snow so best of luck with your trip Pixor

I am one of those people snowed in! The problem is, when I explain that to my manager they expect you to come by taxi or train. I phoned a taxi firm today and it's going to cost me £25 just to get from Tatsfield to Redhill!!! on top of that i've got to pay that again tommorrow night to get back home £50!!!! It's outragious how expensive taxi's are these days. I want to know why managers just can't accept that not everyone lives right next to a clear main road? They drive me mad!

Good grief, emoticon-0104-surprised.gif you couldn't plan a worse journey if you tried. Good luckemoticon-0148-yes.gif

statistically we've not left the last ice age yet. All thats happening with global "warming" is that we wills tart to experience a climate of other areas at the same latitude as us, ie Newfoundland, Parts of central Asia becuase the gulf stream/north atlantic drift will start to fail

Right. We're currently "getting over" the Little Ice Age. All that is happening in the Arctic is the ice is retreating to where it was prior to the Little Ice Age (which was about 10000 years ago I think.) On TV they show you Antarctic ice falling into the sea (which it always does anyway) but not the other coast where it is 400 feet thicker.

According to accurate NASA readings, the last 10 years showed, if anything at all, a degree of cooling.

Still, it's all good stuff for extra taxes (ON CARS), so when you are shovelling all that lovely white snow, look out for big black marks on it

- your CARBON FOOTPRINTS !!

(All you rotten hot hatch owners!!! Get yourself rubber band wind-up cars and your road tax will only be threepence ha'penny a decade. )

It's suppose to rain tonight. Falling on to cold roads, it will immediately turn to ice.

I should have bought some ice skates incase my taxi can't pick me up to take me to work tommorrow! :giggle:

The other option was down the A74M to Carlisle then across the A66, but from past experience, that could be even worse?!

Anyway, I have until next weekend, so fingers crossed it's all cleared up by then, or the missus won't want me to go and I won't get a Christmas drink with my mates!

I hope my winter tyres don't make me over confident :S

Has the A66 reopened? I was going to use that the other day but it was shut. Apparently it had been snowing or something? :D

I like snow in general but I happen to live in a col de sac sorry for the spelling! and my car has being stuck there for the last few days! It's impossible to get the car out as i've got over 2 foot of snow! My manager is not very happy with me for not going to work :( and hewant's me to get a taxi from Tatsfield to Redhill! This is going to cost me £25 each way! :'( I can't even get a train as it has to go up to Croydon and then I need tochange there for Redhill! Even if I do get my car out of my space, at the end of my road it goes round a sharp corner up hill! On top of all this my road tax has expired so not a good idea to risk driving it out anyway incase someone bumps into me. I don't get paid either for taking the last 3 days off due too snow, even though taxis refused to collect me. :'( I wish the council would get a snow mobile and clear all this snow away. Does anyone else have problems with snow?

I live 1000ft up at Tomatin 15 miles south of Inverness and our road is totally clear all the way into Invernes ,I guess we are more prepared for snow and ice in the highlands, we have the gritter and snow plough every morning.Plus I have the trusty Octy Scout.I used to live in Essex and that was worse than here.I do feel sorry for old folks who are snow bound at this time of the year, we are lucky to live in a small village with a strong community spirit, and do check that the old in the village are OK.

News Flash!! Brighton police are looking for a criminal gang that stole 38 million tons of snow during the night. If anyone knows their whereabouts, please inform us as we want to offer them a reward!

haha so very true

where's it all gone?? :o

Funny you say that, because someone in Kent phoned 999 to report his snowman had been stolen! :giggle: It was in the local newspaper yesterday. Just shows the amount of people who waste police time.

Sh, shhh, I'm trying to keep it quiet. Brought it home in a reefer van. Trouble is, now the little s*d keeps trying to melt away!

Burnopfield. It's between Newcastle and Consett (sort of)

Other side of the Derwent valley from me about 3 miles away. Main roads are Ok cos I've just come back from Ferryhill via Leadgate and Medomsley and had no probs at all apart from cars parked on the road and having to give way a lot. I didn't go via Burnopfield but it's probably the same - main road clear and side roads a complete mare.

I had to push a bloke in a Vauxhall Astra who was stuck on our estate on the slightest slope and a little bit of ice so I could get past (no probs with my Scout he says smugly).

Yippee!!!!!!!! It is raining in Redcar, the snow is running (literally) away. Thank goodness for that, at least i wont get sideswiped or rammed by some dozy sod driving like a numpty. Yahoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:rofl:

Empty your freezer & stick him in there

We'll have to arrange another run upto Tan Hill pub again :giggle: there was still snow up there when we went end of March

I've read somewhere that Councils are ignoring cul-de-sacs because they don't go anywhere (obviously!!), but they do go to peoples homes. Anyway, I have lived in a cul-de-sac (with a steep hill) for over 20 years and the gritters have never even tried to get up here in that time, but recently, a family moved in further up and they have a disabled child in a wheelchair and the Council couldn't get here quick enough!!

Mac

We had a few inches down here a couple of night ago, managed to get to work with no problem. My house is down a farm track which is uphill to the main road, and this morning was like an ice rink. However its all gone now, temp here has been 7c today and all the snow has melted all I have is a few small patches of ice by the side of the house.

7c!! Positively tropical. It got up to 2c here today and and there was a very slight thaw but that's it for the next few days, max 1c in the day with more snow forecast every day until Thursday (hope that doesn't happen).

Duh....good idea!

(I'm fed up with beefburgers anyway.)
