Winter tyres on steel rims from mytyres

Featured Replies

Our Fabia 1.4tdi has Bridgestone turanza 205/45 R16 tyres fitted. Excellent in dry or wet and overkill tbh the cars performance doesn't really warrant them. They do have one serious failing - as others point out they are not designed to cope with the winter weather we curently have. So-

Looking to get a set of steel rims with cold weather tyres in the same size as above as advertised by 'Mytyres'. Probable cost about £550 all in.

I know there are various similar threads on here so apologies for any repitition, but has anyone bought similar from this company and could comment. Good service or otherwise? time to deliver? Would you use them again?

Alternatively, suggestions/ recommendations for other companies selling same size tyres ready fitted to steel wheels at a better price gratefully received.

We are in Durham but happy to source from anywhere in UK by courier with recommendation from recent experience.

If I can't get the deal on steel rims I may just get the tyres but don't really want the hassle of swapping them over.

Thanks,

Mark.

I've just placed an order with Mytyres and I have to say I'm a bit disappointed. They left it all for 2 days then sent me an e-mail demanding I fax them a gas bill with my name and address on it. The thing I don't like is that the fax number is in Birmingham but Mytyres are in Oxfordshire somewhere and they actually appear to be a German company with their main warehouse in Poland. Their website is also based in Poland and they actually appear to be called EuroTyres. No-one answers their phone number and if you do get through it's a heavily accentede lady on an answering machine saying they will call you back. Except so far, they haven't.

Poor really.

Ouch! Don't care for that at all. Not keen on using my credit card for overseas transactions unless I know exactly who I'm dealing with. Thanks for your reply, may look elsewhere.

I bought a pair of Vredestein Quatracs from MyTyres.co.uk and had no problems whatsoever. Paid with a credit card on the Saturday night and received email confirmation. Got an email with a tracking number on the Monday. Tracked the tyres and found them despatched from Germany and had them by the end of the week. Not bad for free delivery.

I'd definitely use them again

Did you have the tyres sent to your home address or directly to a fitter? I asked for them to be sent to a fitter, but even so, I think it's very odd they should ask me to fax a gas bill within 5 days to a fax number miles away from their head office?

I had the tyres sent my work address as there would be no-one in to receive them at home.

Can't think why they'd want a gas bill, as you'd be paying up front for the tyres anyway with a credit card.

Are you sure we're talking about the same company?

I think that the parent company is Delticom in Germany, not EuroTyres.

I've bought several tyres from them with no problems. Considering the steel wheels with winter tyres for my octavia scout.

In EXACTLY the same boat as you mate except for 2010 Fabia vRS. Looked at these and they looked really good. Not sure whether to go with them or not.

Also they don't list the new Fabia so I don't know which tyres to go for emoticon-0106-crying.gif

Thank's for those replies.

I think the safest option will be to phone them on Monday and ask questions like where are they based, where do they dispatch from and which courier do they use.

I want a delivery to my h/a as I work from home and will usually be in during office hours, so I wouldn't expect to be faxing gas bills etc.

That requirement might be seen as reasonable mind if that's because a delivery address was different to your credit card address.

Found this list of user reviews for Mytyres. Makes interesting reading: http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews98702.html

Are there any other companies Fabia owners would recommend for cold weather tyres/ wheel combinations, preferably UK based?

My tyres were delivered to work which is a different address to the one on my credit card, so I don't understand the gas bill request for wja96. I think that you might struggle to find anywhere in the UK with winter tyres now as they don't tend to bother bringing many in - not much call for them!

You could try http://www.tyremen.co.uk/ based in Hull and see if they have what you need.

Thanks, I'll try them.

Ignore what they say they have in stock on the website though, give them a call before you order!

My friend at work ordered tyres that appeared to be in stock according to the web only to find they had none left.

Thanks, will do. Their website didn't look brilliant but TBH that applies to lots of companies and I'm not put off by that. It's what they deliver which counts.

Funny thing with car websites, a bit like it's often said how the pet looks a bit like the owner, the website often reflects the car, e.g. Skoda's site, actually very good. Landrover: promises a lot but scratch beneath the surface and the quality still isn't right . Alfa Romeo: nice and shiny but keeps breaking down!

um..thought I'd placed an order with them, but checking my account they seem never to have heard of me - and the tyres I ordered no longer in stock

um..thought I'd placed an order with them, but checking my account they seem never to have heard of me - and the tyres I ordered no longer in stock

..now rechecked on the computer I placed the order and could log in successfully - but says payment not received. I used credit card, but I don't think Germans understand them very well - I've always had to do international bank transfers for payments to Germany in past. So not really counting on seeing these tyres anytime soon, if ever.

Yes, but I'm having them delivered to their fitting station so surely they could verify my identity? It all just seems very dubious. They have charged my credit card though.

Ok thanks, based on the above comments and those on the review site I posted, I'm not going to use mytyres.

I had no problems at all when I bought SWMBOs tyres. Transaction went straight through via the UK website and tyres were delivered to me within a week, free delivery from Germany. Can't fault the service and I would use them again.

I used mytyres last year and had no issues whatsoever. If you're not keen on them then try your dealer (mine is doing a roaring trade in winter tyres apparently) and kwik fit are also selling them. Both appear to cost more than mytyres though. :wonder:

I have now had a phone-call from Mytyres apologising and admitting that the tyres were out of stock and did I want to hang-on until they became available again. I said I didn't and they really needed to get themselves sorted out. The lady on the phone said they were really busy but somehow that doesn't really cut it does it?

I eventually got some on ebay.de. Cheap too. £100 each for 18" Nokians.

Hi. I ordered a pair of steel wheels/ winter tyres for the Vrs estate but like a muppet I got the size wrong!!!! They collected them promptly and refunded the full amount. Top service and unbeatable prices. About to order a full set foor my new VRs Furby

Ordered winter tyres on steel rims on the 9th. December for our Fabia 1.2TSI Elegance to replace the pretty abysmal 205/45 R16 Continentals. Went for 195/55 R15 Bridgestone Blizzak LM30's (size of space-saving spare).

Arrived today having spent a week in transit from Germany. Non OEM rims look good quality, although one is obviously of different manufacture to the other three and appears slightly inferior. Design looks very similar to the steel rims fitted to the Fabia I. Have fitted OEM Skoda Fabia II 15" Hermes wheel trims, however the edge of the trim sits proud of the rim edge as if they could do to push in 2-3 mm more.

Overall though very pleased with the package, will wait and see how well these tyres perform but typically their forecasting rising temperatures next week :D

Quick update

Had a ride out on the new winters along lanes varying from exposed tarmac, slush, snow and ice or a combination of. Besides one traction controlled wheel spin starting off on a slope covered with snow and ice then I have to say these winters are far far better and safer than tiptoeing around on the OEM 205/45 R16 sports tyres.

Possible the softer compound of the winter spec tyre but the ride also felt noticeable better on the 195/55 R15 to that on the 16" Although the I do like the look of the Elba alloys.
