What kind of deal should I be looking to do with e dealer?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

As you all know Ive been looking to get a superb elegance 170 estate with 4x4, plus lots of extras, I've taken the wife to see it today and it's ticked all the boxes, she prefers it to my BMW ;0))

Going to test drive tomorrow.

I've already had a quote from drivethedeal for 24890 instead of 28000 list with the options, I would like to give the dealer the chance to do a deal. I've used drive the deal before, they are great but I've experienced issues when e supplying dealer could be anywhere in the country, my previous golf gti was missing some options, it was a nightmare to sort out.

Anyway to get to my point does anyone know if Skoda dealers are open to deals? I work in sales so I know most of the tricks but appreciate the poor guys need to make a living. I know the had they vat free deal but I believe this doesn't apply to the superb

hi i managed a 11.5 percent discount on a 26k 140 elagance with 2k worth of options

so guess 10 - 15 % should be possible

be sure that with drive the deal or any broker you are the first registered owner

Hi Andy, Thanks for the info, I was thinking around that figure would be good to aim for.

I have used drivethedeal 3 times before, you are always the first owner. Effectively they put all their business through one broker hence the discounts, you pay your deposit to the dealer directly and deal with the dealer. It's always preferential though to deal with your local dealer as it's easier to run it up the road or query if there is an issue with the car.

Going to test drive tomorrow.

I see that you are around Basingstoke. Is the test drive on a standard 170 estate model or have you managed to find a dealer with the 170 4x4? If so, can you tell me which one?

Thanks,

AH

Hi, went to test drive and I'm very impressed.

They had the 170 tdi elegance estate, so not the 4x4 version but it drove very well with minimal body roll. I was expecting it to roll all over the place, acceleration and torque are nice, in every day driving it's not massively different to my 123d. No rattles and very nice soft ride, I'm used to sports seats, when I chucked round the corners I could feel myself slighlt moving out of the seat. As I said to the wife, I need to accept that it's designed for comfort and not being chucked around ;0))

Just got to see what the dealer can do on price, the poor guy was running round like a headless chicken trying to keep two customers happy, the sales manager was apparently busy on something else.

I have good prices from broadspeed and drive the deal, they offer around a 10.5% discount, if the dealer can match this they have the business!

UPDATE - The dealer came back with a quote today, wasn't particularly impressed, I worked it out that they offered around a 4.3% discount, list price of the car with the various options was £27792, they came back with £26569.00. It amazes me that given the huge discounts they are doing on the rest of the range they wouldn't entertain a slightly better discount.

I've had a quote from drivethedeal for £24726.14, Broadspeed £24826, having used Drivethedeal 3 times before I think my business is going their way. I've e-mailed the dealer back out of courtesy to see if he can match the drivethedeal offer. I'm doubting it but thought I would give them the chance, I've made it very clear to them I will place an order this week if they can match it.

I'm not surprised TBH, have a look on autotrader and eBay at the ex-demo dealer cars with up to 10K on them that are for sale for new car prices (that is dealer new, not DtD new!)

I can understand dealers failing to give a big discount as the supply of Superbs and the Yeti can't keep up with the global demand, both are in the region of an 18 week wait and in some cases more (mine was 24 week wait). The wait for the Octavia I am about to order is now at about 16 weeks and may be longer if there is a rush for the Octavias VAT free opton before the offer ends at the end of this month.

So a dealer in most cases is pretty certain that if you don't buy from them, there will be someone who is.

Hi SW1,

I was in the same position as you - I ordered mid-September & although I didn't do qiute as well as Andyrep I got a 9.5% reduction on list price (Superb Estate 170CR Elegance, with about £1k of extras).

I wanted to shop around a little more but they would only agree to such a price if prepared to sign. Maybe try again, work out your price based on 12% and hopefully they'll agree to somewhere between 9-11% discount. But be prepared to sign, leave a deposit & then wait.....

From all the feedback it should be worth the wait! and depending upon what is important to you, there probably isn't much that comes close for amount of car for the price!

Its my first ever Skoda (20 years ago the thought was repulsive, but now... the choice is yours) but my wait will have been 12-13 weeks from date of order, assuming it turns up in about the next 10 days. Not much worse than a VW, BMW or Merc for a factorty order. Although others have suffered with long long waits, a shame there isn't clarity for the reasons.

Good luck

Stef

Thanks for the advice Stef, I never saw myself owning a Skoda either, how times and attitudes change.

We will see what they come back with. I'm happy to wait for the car as we have our Alaskan Malamute pup arriving in Jan, it will take him a while to outgrow the current cars  in the mean time I can carry on enjoying my little BMer, I am tempted to keep it and the estate. I doubt that will be practical though. If the car arrive end of April that will be fine with me, I was very impressed with it on the test drive.

I will update everyone if I get a response.

Normal Skoda dealer discount is about 7%, no doubt some wit will arrive later saying they got 25% off, but in general unless Skoda backs the discounts it's no more than 7%.

My local dealer offered what works out to be a 7.6% discount on a 170 4x4 Estate with a few extras, however, CarQuake were another £1,800 less so I went with them.

Sorry forgot to add in metallic paint on list cost, so discount was 9%

Cheers

Hi Steve,

Could you tell me what your experience was like with Carquake, I assumed they just passed you on to the dealer as the quote the price from West Midlands Skoda. I have also just received a very good quote from them. Did you car arrive on time and in line with other peoples delivery estimates.

Thanks,

Stuart

Hi I would try a couple of other dealers

I managed to get 2 dealers offering at least 10% off by playing them against each other (its a cruel world but I'm in sales so it happens to me day in day out) at the end of the day you know you can walk away and go to a broker but they have to buy there cars from dealers so the deals are there just have to be hard nosed !

if you want the dealers i was talking to then PM me

Andy

Experience all straight forward. Yes they put you through to supplying company, not always dealer as mine is from a commercial fleet supplier. All new and 1st registered though, so no funny pre-owned business.

Can't comment on delivery times, other than they quoted exactly same lead times as local dealer for a factory spec car. While I was getting quotes and deciding whether to go for 4x4 or DSG they phoned back with a car that was immediately available. Not 1st choice colour but ok for me and saves me the wait.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for your advice guys, I've decided to go with Drivethedeal, having used them several times before I know they are a safe bet. The dealer came back this morning saying he couldn't go any better then his 4% discount.

Going to place the order as soon as DTD come back to me, now the wait begins ;o))

FInally ordered, I have gone for the Superb Elegance Estate 170 4 x 4 in Aqua Blue, I went with the following options Loud speaker, heated front and rear seats, auto dimming mirror, heated washers, mid interface, spare wheel, park assist plus floor mats

In the end I didn't go with the heated windscreen as I thought it would be more expensive to replace under insurance, I've not really had an issue with normal windscreen too be honest in any car i've owned.

Heated windscreen is no different under insurance, just the same windscreen excess as normal.

I've had heated windscreens on past four Range Rovers and they have been very good in winter months. For the relatively small option cost on the Superb I would definitely add it on a factory order.

Cheers
