VRS ENGINE CUT OUT AT 3000 RPM NOW WONT RUN

Featured Replies

evening all, pulling away from lights this afternoon at about 3000 rpm the engine cut out and wouldnt start again. Literally like someone pulling a plug. Got recovered back to home address and green flag guy had a quick look over.

Basically it will start with a struggle but only with oil filler cap off and then it ticks over fine but pressing accellerator pedal doesnt give any real increase in revs, and when you put oil cap back on engine stalls.......................

Anybody any ideas?

Speaking to my other half this afternoon she tells me that a similar thing happened to her a few weeks back going over a speed bump a little too fast ( engine cut out dead) however it did start again straight away no problem.

all the best Chris

Mine does exactly this when the turbo sized.

thanks for reply matt,

i think the turbo gave a bit more of a screech than normal when pulling away but nothing too bad and certainly no bang and no smoke ???

chris

Mine didn't either. Kinda made a quiet "popping" sound, but nothing loud.

thats the sort of noise ours makes now whilst turning over, but failing to start

Dont know if mine is the same, but at 2 - 3k revs ish (on boost) my vrs would shudder and eventually ended up stalling.

Turbo seals gone on mine...

+1 Same thing happened to me. Sounds like the turbo has blown unfortunately.

Thanks for all the reply,s but its the ticking over with oil cap off then stalling with back on that could also imply so many other 'engine block' problems that bothers me. Did the turbo problems you had exhibit this same problem?

thanks, chris

Yup exactly that. The gases can't escape anywhere else, as the exit via the exhaust is blocked. The blocks are solid, never heard any issues with them.

right guys,

managed to get a fault computer plugged in this morning and it is showing an EGR VALVE fault.

Is there any way a knackered EGR VALVE could cause these symptoms rather than a knackered turbo ?

Im sure ive read on here somewhere about the anti shudder valve could stick and cause problems.

And yes i am clutching at straws !!

thanks, chris
