removing floor carpet

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm planning to remove all of the floor carpets of my Fabia to add sound deadening and lay a few cables for an ICE project. Could anyone give any advice on removing the carpet. Particullary how do I remove the seats as the runners have a strange shape bolt head that I don't recognise or have the appropiate tool for.

Cheers

Seats are quite simple to remove. You need a spline tool for that bolt in the runner (iirc its a 10) but be carefull they are threadlocked into the floor and quite tight so make sure your in there good and propper.

Then you need to remove the rear seat bases, the glove box and under panel from the drivers side. The B pillar trims so you can remove the sill trims and then the kick panels. Then the centre console has to come out.

Now the tricky bit. The carpet is all in one piece as new, but it is put in before the heater box so wraps around the back of it. Two choices either take the heaterbox out or make a cut in the carpet down the middle under the box so you can pull it out from either side and then pull it back to the rear of the car and out.

I'd go for the cut myself, you dont see it under the heater box.

But on a lighter note I safely secured all my amp wiring etc without taking the carpet all the way out, with the seats out and the sill trims off you can lift it all up and get under it just fine.

Hope this helps

Cheers, :) I should be able to manage I think,

just one thing, where do I get a spline tool from?

Halfords do them, individually or on a rail iirc.

Much like this...

Found them on Amazon btw.

Cheers, That happens to look exactly like the set I bought

It is a 10 BTW :)

One final thing, what do you mean by saying they are threadlocked? I don't want to dameage them.

They have a locking compound on themt o stop them coming loose, just measn they can be tight coming out so make sure the bit is in there all the way.
