Water Pumps.

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I was wondering what the general opinion was on Water Pump type, wether the one with the plastic impellar or the metal impellar.

It is said that if the plastic one should break if there is a problem and not dislodge the cam belt, and the steel one lasts longer but if there is a problem and it siezes it can shed the cam belt and prove expensive

As I am thinking of getting one I wondered which was the best route to take?

Many thanks,

I would say as long as you stick to the recommended timing belt intervals you should be ok with either

Just remember to have the pump changed when the timing belt is done!!

There's a recent thread about waterpumps.

Apparently the genuine VW one has a plastic impellor and 'patten' ones have the metal impellor, only what I've read in the other thread.

Would that have any bearing on which type to fit?
