Central Locking

Featured Replies

Ok, have got an OE central locking kit on it's way from someone on EBay (£32 inc P&P), and I'm obviously not going to be using 3/5 of it in the pickup (although I have toyed with the idea of a tilt sunroof, maybe I could use the tailgate lock to do that). Coupled with the OE remote kit I got the other week, I think the whole lot came to about £60/£70. The remote is suppose to be able to release the tailgate on a hatchback remotely. Not the same type of tailgate on the truck......hence the sunroof idea. ;-)

My question is:

Is the whole lot just a case of plumbing and plugging, or am I getting the drill and my car electrics kit out?

The necessary holes should be there already - just a case of removing the plastic/rubber plugs, and the rest should just be a case of screwing the relevant bits in place. The OE kits seem to be good in terms of including everything you need - the only one I have that recommends any king of permanent modification to the car is the plastic wheelarch trims (which recommend drilling and pop-riveting to the lip of the arch). The wiring should be much the same - all looms, connectors, etc. included. The only thing extra you'll probably need is one of these highly complex special tools: http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l626/RobinSLXi/Felicia/cl8.jpg :giggle:

The tailgate release on the remote kit is simply an output offering +12V at up to 12A for 0.9 seconds when you push the 2nd button - you can use that to drive a solenoid or relay for whatever you want.

p.s. If the tailgate motor in the C/L kit is indeed a lock, rather than a remote release, there should be a little part or two you won't need that I'd be most keen to take off your hands if possible as my tailgate lock kit turned out to be slightly incomplete.

Aha! Ye Olde PS/2 PSU tester! I have a load of those kicking around ;-) Although not exactly sure where there's a PS/2 PSU in the truck :-S

As soon as the kit's here, I'll let you know :-)

Cheers

Alex

No, no, no, a PSU tester won't do at all! This a Skoda special tool no less (TRIGA-CS terminal remover, apparently). And don't even think about using a CD tray ejector either!
