Clutch problem

Featured Replies

I had my 1.8 tsi chipped a few months ago. Nothing big just went from 160hp/250nm to 190hp and 300nm. On a coupple of occaisons I had to drive off a steep hill and needed to use a little more rpm (2500-3000) while clutch only slightly ingaded. First I heard a squeaky noise and then smelled clutch burning. When I drive of with low revs (below 2000) everythnig is normal. Now...will this get worse? Is my clutch on the way out? Car only has 10.000 miles on it, 2.000 miles after tuning. I mean there are 1.8 tsi engines with a lot more than 300 nm without problems.

Don't slip the clutch so much .You're burning it out....Simples...

How was it 'chipped'? Was it a remap? Who did the work out of interest?

Does it slip when you are moving ie is it slipping if you put your foot down in low revs/high gear?

I doubt very much you've worn the clutch out completely, but you may have glazed the friction surfaces. Just drive NORMALLY for a few weeks, and see then if you have any problems. The test is to put it in top gear at about 30mph and floor the accelerator - if nothing much happens, the clutch is fine; if the revs rise but the car doesn't get any faster, the clutch is worn out. I glazed mine a while back (430Nm) and it's been fine since!

What I am worried about is that this will get only worse and that because of tuning I will have to cover everything...

How was it 'chipped'? Was it a remap? What company did the remap or chip??

It was a remap...SKN Germany...

Since you had more horsepower and presumably torque..................why did you need more/extra or any additional revs for pulling away?

The Army had a wonderful "catchall" charge in my day ......................."neglect, misuse or damage"

just a thought
