Snow Foam - Can it be applied with a hose pipe?

Featured Replies

Hey guys, just doing a bit of a read up of snow foam.

The new Furby VRS is filthy already from the salt and grit!

Looks like most people are using Pressure Washers to apply it.

Just wondering, is there anyway to apply it with a hose pipe?

Thanks

Stu

Yes there is. You can get a Gilmour attachment which fits on the end of a hose pipe. The pressure will not be as good as a power washer, but does the job pretty well. ( I have one sitting idle in the garage if you like........ reasonable pice including P&P...... ;) )

Gives you a rough idea what they can do, as well as details of a good site for all your car care needs..

Would appear we do actually have a pressure washer in the garage!

Will any attachment fit?

Edit: I am currently trying to be talked out of using snow foam by one of the parents because they are certain it is the same sort of Persil stuff that they sprayed onto their car and it didn't do anything...can't seem to convince them it's not the same stuff at all!

To get good foam you need to get a snow foam lance. although I got a detergent bottle with my nilfisk pressure washer that's okay.

As said, to get the best performance you'll need one that fits onto your pressure washer. The attachments vary between Karcher and the rest, so you'll need to get the one that's compatible. The Gilmour does a decent job considering it's on std water pressure, but if you have a pressure washer already it makes sense to use it :)

Have a look at Detailing World for loads more info. Quite a few respected online places sell them - Elite, CleanYourCar both spring to mind. Have a look round.

I have an Autobrite one for my Karcher, but it's broken - something to do with the valve inside it. So not sure I'd recommend theirs! They haven't got back to me with a fix/resolution either, so their customer care leaves something to be desired too.

P.S. it's an idea to keep your pressure washer somewhere that's away from the cold and frost though - they don't like it and I've seen a few just break their compressors in this type of weather. If you can't keep it above outside temps, then maybe move it inside for a few hours before you use it....

Thanks mate.

Just had a look at the pressure washer, it is by a brand called Champion, think I read somewhere this is a generic brand by Focus DIY (it's the parents pressure washer) so not sure what lance would fit it to be honest.

Oky doke. Never heard of them I'm afraid. Worth checking on Detailing World to see if anyone uses them. Try a search for Champion lance or something similar...

Or check some of the online detailing retailers suggested, and see if they offer a compatible fitting. You might find its the same as another brand, for example.

Don't know if this helps, this is the current hose lance fitting:

Looks like the Kew / Alto fitting to me which is the same as the one used for the Nilfisk, or it could be the Lavor, worth dropping whoever you intend to source one a email asking them and give them some dimensions of those two tabs:
