G-max sports springs..your views?

Featured Replies

I had Gmax on my previous car and regretted this from the day they were put on. I found that the biggest problem was the dampers. It felt like there was no damping and the car would bounce around so much I thought I would take off  The ride was lower and was fine for driving around town but get on a bumpy country lane and its verging on dangerous. Considering that they were cheaper than the standard shocks and springs I don't call this an upgrade. I would only recommend it if you are short of cash and need to be lowered for cosmetic reasons.

How about some second hand vRS stuff.

I thought they were too cheap to be any good so I'll start asking around in a couple of months time about about second hand vrs springs, dampers etc thats the first chance I will have to fit them and with all the upgrading going on on here there may be one or two sets about.

Cheers for that

i had gmax springs on my mk3 golf td and they were *******s. went through a set of shocks in about 15k. the problem is that they're progressive - they'll tell you this is good - but what it really means is that the top half is soft so it takes up all the room in the extension of the shock. I would say unless you're tryin to pimp you're car on the cheap don't do. I thought it would improve handlin but it doesn't really.

I've now got heavy duty springs on the back - don't really know if i improves handling but i can certainly fill the boot and half the car full of bodies and it doesn't sink.

If you really want to lower it for improved handling go for shortened shocks too - though it starts to get expensive. I've gone off the idea of messing with suspension cos all the geometry gets messed up which leads to tire wear etc.

Good luck, R.
