Heater Squeek

Featured Replies

Has anybody changed the heater motor in the Octavia as mine has gained a tendancy to warble like a bad opera singer when on low speed and also when on a bumpy road, suspect worn or dry bearings. can the unit be easily accessed without removing the glovebox etc. ;)

You need to remove the glovebox, and it's right there, just a couple of screws to remove.

Can't do it without removing the glovebox though!

Hi - Would you mind letting me know how you get on?

Will have to remove mine soon!

Cheers

John

I would be interested to know as well! My one has been noisy on and off for three years but this cold weather recently has made it a bit more vocal than usual!

I wonder if it is possible to refurbish or re lubricate them easily? Thinking of getting one from a scrap yard and then re furbishing my old one.

Plucked up courage to remove mine this morning!

Once I had the glove-box out, I sat trying to work out how to get the motor out!

There are two 6mm bolts under the motor. Remove these, allowing the resistor pack to be removed

the motor will then just 'fall' out!

My problem turned out to be one of the motor brushes failing.

I tested the motor with an external 12v supply . . .

One brush arching like hell . . motor would run by putting pressure on that brush . . .

So now its a hunt of local dismantlers/scrapyards for another motor, methinks might be easy, hoping the motor is common to other VAG group cars!

Hope this of some help to others

I'd be interested to know how you get on with this. My heater motor squeals in cold weather when set to speed 2.
