Octavia mk1 vRS Coilover fitting guide...

Featured Replies

Hi all

After a few days of deliberation I've decided to jump in head first and try to do my coilovers myself (Weitec hicon GT's).

I've seen a couple of guides about but stupidly didn't bookmark them, does anyone have the link?

I've searched everywhere, sorry for another 'same old' thread..

Thanks, John

tbh mate is a very easy job just take your time should take a few hours to do use wd40 and copper slip greese :p

its fairly straight forward mate, i fitted mine at work.

to make life easier make sure you get a spanner that fits in the suspension cup (strut top nut)

spring compressors ( i used jubilee clips :giggle: but dnt recommend it)

i also borrowed a hub splitter which made life easier!

takes a couple or 3 hours to do, while your at it i'd recommend fitting new top mounts and bearings front and rear

Get the hub splitter from vw it will save your at least 2 hours trust me

Yeah heard about this little tool!!

For a hub splitter I just used an allen key on a socket drive. A much cheaper solution, as I already had a set for when I did my front brakes.

The tool is only a tenner and well worth it.

I listed some parts to replace if your motor has done some miles as worth doing these whilst you are fitting suspension.

Lower strut mounting bolt 18mm x2 N10 207 803

Inner front strut nuts 18mm x2 1H0412365A

Thanks bowders that's a great help, I have made up my own hub splitter from an Allen key ground down to an oval type shape.

The Job is easy especially if you are getting new nuts, bolts etc as you can now remove the old stuff and not worry about refitting them and also being left high and dry needing them if any shear. You will need coil spring compressors to remove the old stuts to get good clearance out of car.

If you need any help or advise just shout. Had my suspension off and on more times than a prossies knickers....
