Xenon Washers....

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I know others have said there washers are not working (fuse 15) ........ However slightly diffrents, my washers are working front and rear..... But my headlight washers arnt?! Plus it seems to be leaking from roughly under the passenger seat? Any ideas, could I have split the pipe? ....

Any help welcome :-)

Thanks Dave

My Polo did this - I thought I had a huuuuuge coolant leak! Could it be that the ice or something has frozen the cover to the bumper? I know mine freeze all over the headlamps when used (even at speeds!) so it could be possible. You *should* be able to lift the jet up to check it if it's anything like the Polos.

Just been out having a proper look, checked fuse 15 for good measure but it was fine, checked the pump and that all connected fine! I have put it in the garage over night to see if it is really leaking, so far it has not leaked :-/ I have also checked and the caps seem to lift a little it so they are not frozen :-/

How did you fix it on your polo? Or did they just start working again?

Any other ideas as to why they might not be working ?

Cheers

Dave

Ah, sorry - shoulda been clearer!

I only saw the puddle after parking up for a hour or two, but I don't remember the jets working on the journey there, nor the window washers. This was on the first day it was cold and there was a huge puddle/stream of water running out of the front of my cars bumper, around by the radiator and the washers. When I got back to it, it worked fine - which I assume was due to it thawing out again. I'm guessing the puddle was the washers firing, but not rising, or a pipe bursting somewhere, although it's not leaked since so I'm not too sure what caused it.

So I didn't have to fix anything, but since waiting for it to thaw out it has been fine since.

Just a thought - it is above 1l (I think, although mines got a 6.5l tank, whereas I think the Fabia's is 5l) worth of washer fluid? As when it's low, it stops the light jets working, but allows the wind screen ones to work still. Guessing you've come across this before though.

I hope that makes sense, but my mind is dead from too much revision and coursework!

Mine is dead. It moves fine so isn't stuck. Just changed fuse 15 still won't go up. Any more news?

There's a fuse for 'headlight cleaning system' cant remember the no though :( check that first though as it had blown on swmbo's vrs the other day!

Nope no news, I wash mine by hand now lol ........ I have read that the washers are pushed up by the water pressure (could be wrong) which may mean the pipe connecting to them has popped off?!?

Also I think the fuse is the same as for the wipers 15 ?

I have a feeling it could be a bumper off job to fix?

Most of this is guess work tbh........... Just can't afford to get I looked at ...... Wedding..... New house......Xmas enough said lol

But if you fix it please let me know how lol :-D

Cheers Dave

Hope you know that the washers do not work everytime you wash the windows, they only work every 3rd. or 4th. push of the washer switch.

Not even that!

No definative answer but I think it's a timed operation, Rather than a cycle operation! (Once every 30 mins or so)

Mine work everytime usually - only leave it a couple of minutes before I wash them again.

On startup, it takes one or two goes for them to work - as said I think it's a pressure based thing.

There is a real chance that it is the headlight washer pump that has failed, my 2000MY Passat B5 failed a few years ago - probably due to poor design and road water/salt had got in where it should not have and expanded the metalwork and that burst the plastic parts. It is the same pump that the 2003MY Polo 9N uses, it cost a lot but less than I had allowed for and was very easy to replace though if its the same as the Passat B5 then the connector needs replacing at the same time (change of position of keying).

Fuse 64 changed and is now working. thanks Gaz_vrs

Thanks for the information....and you know what....it was fuse 64 that had blown. I really should read the manual more closely........ be fair though for duse 15 it does say "Headlight washer system, wipers" ....

But anyway a big thank you for helping get this sorted :-) i can now see in the dark again :-D

Dave

Told you so :p :giggle:

Apparently only one of mine is working (passenger side). But I can't be in the car to press the button and outside to watch so I'm not sure what's up with it?

Not the ice, as its been like this for a year now.
