VRS Gearbox Oil Spec

Featured Replies

Morning all!

My VRSs gearchange seems to have become a little notchy of late, probably due to the cold weather, but feel like she deserves a gearbox oil change anyway.

My question is, what spec oil / transmission fluid does it take, and how much of it?

Thanks

Dan

I've had a look and couldn't see it either. Engine oil spec, yes, Gearbox oil spec didn't appear to be there

I didnt think it was, cheers for looking!

I got mine from Opie Oils - check their website, enter your car details and it'll list gearbox oil.

Skoda say its sealed for life, but it certainly made the difference when I had it changed at 80k.

Are there any concevieable differences between transmission fluid and gear oil, there are two suggestions on the Opie Oil site, one of which is oil, and the other transmission fluid?

Cheers

Dan

I would really recommend Genuine vag oil, G52 is it? somewhere in the region of £7 a litre.

I changed my last Octy oil to Fuchs oil from Opie and it was awful really notchy, so bad that i changed it back to VAG oil and it was much much better.

You suprise me, I thought the Fuchs stuff was supposed to be pretty good.

agree with the above, don't waste you money on fancy gearbox oil and best stick to VAG oil as VW gearboxes are very sensitive to the type of oil used and the change become really notchy if the VAG stuff is not used
